Possible Change in Job Status for City Attorney Mark Sossi to be Considered at Tonight's City Commission Meeting

From the editor:  An agenda item for tonight's City Commission meeting will consider changing City Attorney Mark Sossi's status from contract lawyer to city employee.  An executive session starts at 5:45 PM with the regular meeting beginning at 6:00 PM.

Part B of the Executive Session is to evaluate Sossi:

B) Discussion pursuant to Texas Government Code 551.074 to discuss the evaluation and employment of the City Attorney. (Commissioners Ricardo Longoria, Jr./Cesar De Leon – 7 mins.)

After the job evaluation in Executive Session, Sossi's employment status will be considered during the commission meeting.  The agenda item reads as follows:

B) Discussion and Possible Personnel ACTION to make City Attorney a City Employee. (Commissioners Ricardo Longoria. Jr. /Cesar de Leon)

Currently Sossi works for the City of Brownsville on an "as needed" basis at the rate of $120,000 per year.  He earns and additional $60,000 per year from the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation for legal advice.

UPDATE:  Sossi will not have to punch the clock or hit the road just yet.  The City Commission came out of an Executive Session that went overtime 40 minutes and decided to table the agenda item to make City Attorney Mark Sossi a city employee.

  1. More tricks from the commission. This guy should have been fired years ago. But he does their bidding, so the commission takes care of him. Pathetic.
