Airport Advisory Board Discusses New Brand, Airport Layout Plans

Airport Director Bryant Walker Reveals Airport's Brand
Airport Director Bryant Walker revealed the airport's new brand at Tuesday's noon meeting of the Airport Advisory Board.  Rugs, a relief to be hung inside the terminal, monument signs, directional signs, even frisbees and coffee cups will contain the new brand.

"Before we can even begin to highlight our low fares, direct flights or do any advertising, we have to put our brand out there," stated Walker.

An airport layout plan for the next twenty years,  s in the works, according to the director, while plans for the new terminal should be ready in seven months.

Board Chairman Manuel Alcocer expressed his eagerness to get some preliminary work done on the new terminal.

"We're taking soil samples right now," offered Walker.

"We can't bring in the bulldozers until we know what sort of soil were dealing with, where the water table is, etc."

Walker stated that the City of Brownsville would be responsible for a "diversionary road," to handle traffic while the new terminal was under construction.

  2. As a resident here, I do not even consider flying out of brownsville when planning my travel. I get great service flying out of Harlingen and McAllen. First time you are delayed for 3 hours or so flying out of Brownsville and you will feel the same way. Perhaps they can change it into a crop duster flight school or something more productive.

    1. I move about the country on Southwest Airlines. Harlingen airport has: ample parking, cheaper faires, better security, multiple restaurants, stores, comfort, a very nice fountain, efficient management, better baggage claim, the occasional boat show.......explain what Brownsville has to offer? Did I mention the fountain? I guess you get tired of people constantly telling you how lousy your city is.

  3. Even all the illegal alien wetbacks hated flying back to their homelands out of the Brownsville airport. Customs had to move the deportation operations to Harlingen. How the hell did the city of brownsville loose that lucrative contract with ICE? It was a cash cow. Did you know about that one Jimbo? Maybe you could ask for me at the next airport board meeting. Thanks.

    1. Wrong. ICE still operates out of the Brownsville SPI Airport almost daily, 2, even 3 flights. Check your facts before typing, drive to the airport any morning between 7 and 9, you'll see the buses guarded by ICE agents, and the planes being prepped to depart.

  4. This is why Brownsville is so far behind Mcallen and Harlingen, people don't support our local economy. This airport is very important to our city, you all not believe it but Brownsville has a great future.our problem is the city leaders that don't believe in it.

  5. Oh yes a fountain. I will drive 30 minutes for a fountain. Way to go support your local economy. Dumb brownsville residents! Solidarity is obviously not in your vocabulary.
