Marisa Govea Hernandez killed Mary Tipton, striking her with her white Volkswagen, then leaving the scene without rendering aid or even reporting the accident. Mary lay face down in a ditch for three days before discovered by a construction worker walking along FM 803.

Yes, there is evidence of malpractive by McAllen Attorney Oscar Alvarez, hired by Ralph Tipton. Lawyers react just as BPD Detective Thomas Clipper reacted when confronted by pressure from his "superiors." They cave.
The bottom line is that Marisa Govea Hernandez must take personal responsibility in the death of Mary Tipton.
Footnote: The two articles we've written about the hit-and-run accident leading to the death of Mary Tipton have set records for individual, singular articles at the Brownsville Observer. The first article had over 15,000 page views with the second at 11,000 and growing. Obviously, this incident struck a nerve with Brownsville, Cameron County.

As much corruption as Cameron County citizens have been exposed to, and put up with... Limas, Villalobos, Rosenthal, Marchan, Yzaguirre, and sadly the list goes on... I do not believe all the facts are being told to the public. Had there been wronging by Sheriff, Brownsville Police, Private attorneys, and the DA, the feds would have had every single person involved in jail. It is a tragedy this woman was killed on a dark highway ALONE, but she had no business walking along a deserted, dangerous, pitch black highway BY HERSELF. Not only is it pitch black, there is a prison within walking distance!

Should these accusations all be completely true, someone would be sitting behind bars. I agree that Mary deserves justice. I'm just asking why she was traveling alone and in such a deserted area in the dark... something about the narrative doesn't sit well.

Are you justifying that it's okay to have hit her, killed her and driven off because she had no business being out there? If there is inconsistencies in the story, you should do your own research and fill out the narratives for yourself as opposed to question why a person was where they were at. It's not communist Germany yet, people can still walk around at whatever time they feel like it.

Mary's marriage and whether or not her relationship with her husband was healthy or not, does not change that fact. ReplyDeleteIts true the public doesn't hear the whole story. I happen to know this family through my husband...she DID stop her vehicle when she hit the lady, but it was very dark and foggy as well and she did not see anything. She drove on, but it bothered her so she immediately told her son - due to him working for the Sheriff' - and he drove with her back to the scene. He ALSO didn't find anything.They DID report the incident but nothing happened until a body was discovered DAYS later. When that came out, Ms. Govea went with her son to turn herself in to the authorities.

ReplyDeleteWhat does it matter that she was walking alone? It doesn't change the fact the she was hit by a woman who has faced no punishment for killing a person. Please stop blaming the victim and focus on the real problem. And, to believe that these accusations are false because no one is in jail or because federal agents haven't stepped in is naive at best. The amount of corruption and underhanded dealings within the Brownsville and Cameron County political systems have been around for as long as they have been established and federal government isn't going to step in until someone makes it their business.

I don't know why we keep insisting that the driver is trying to cover up. There is a report for the accident and when it came to light, she did the right thing in turning herself in. Period. She did what she had to, call the police call for help.

ReplyDeleteYou clearly have no idea how the system works. The insurance company will only offer policy limits. any competent attorney will take policy limits so i doubt anything was turned down. Most people only have about $30,000 in liability - a few have $50,000 - it would be highly unlikely she had more than $50,000. So I do not believe his attorney turned down anything

Her son should not have been the one to search for that woman. That right there is a conflict of interest. I hear so many stories from people I know who work in law enforcement. From deputies to state troopers. They get so annoyed by their aunts,uncles,abuelas,padrinos,cousins,second cousins twice removed calling them whenever they get into any kind of trouble. Ok it was dark n rainy or whatever, she didnt see her its an accident...Stop the car n render aid...she could have lived. Just imagine her suffering if she died there all alone because she didnt have the heart or the courage to render aid. The same people saying tipton shouldnt have been out going for a run at night are the same ones who blame women for rape. This woman was out running and Hernandez hit her with her car. It was said hernandez was under an influence also. So she foes home. Calls her law-enforcement son then 3 days later, comes clean. Everyone knows that cops cover their own asses and their families. Thats how it works. Lawyers and law enforcement work together, you cant defend the family cause you have to defend your job. Hernandez deserves to rot. She took a life and left tipton faced down in a ditch by herself..

I don't care about their marital issues. I don't care if they have used drugs. The focus should be on the way the entire incident was handled. Notice I said incident not accident; because if it was truly an accident 911 would have been called not her son. She would have stopped called 911 and rendered aid and the normal course of any accident investigation would have begun. Since she chose for whatever reason (scared) or ( under the influence) to handle this horrific event in the manner she did makes her look shady and her son the deputy look like he is trying to cover something up. You people on here commenting about the Tipton personal life and not focusing on the facts that look shady is bizarre to me....and it shows why the corruption is elected time and time again because drunk under the influence voters want the same kind of favoritism that was shown to this GOVEA lady.
