As detailed by Juan Montoya's El Rrun Rrun blog, the association spent about one hundred grand in 2013 wooing, courting, wining and dining novela star Eduardo Yanez in Mexico City. Eduardo accepted the nomination and was whisked to Brownsville/SPI Airport on a charter jet costing $13,000.
With Itati just 12 miles north of the city via I-69 E, the Mr. Amigo Association should be able to find a more economical method of transporting her to Charro Days events and the parade route.

Just as citizens of the U.S. go "gaga" over the Kardasians, the "Mr. Amigo Committee" seems to be "gaga" over novela stars. Seems like there are people other than novela stars and musicians who qualify as good choices for "Mr. Amigo".....soccer players, Bobby Pulido, and others...

ReplyDeleteI am a Brownsville native and I rather go to Border Fest in Mcallen or to the Science and Engineering festivities at UTRGV Edinburg in October or to the Dia de Muertos festivities at the Edinburg historical museum than the Brownsville activities where our local officials only show up to show off and have never been directly involved in CULTURAL activities and I don't mean free food or free music.

ReplyDeleteWhy do they always pick alcoholic washed up Mexican actors? That is a picture of Itati Cantoral from the early 90's. The picture used for the Mr. Amigo Poster is also an early picture. She failed in her latest play, she was fired in Argentina on her latest novela, her last novela was with Pedro Fernandez who is not even part of Televisa anymore and the ignorant close minded people from the Mr. Amigo association IGNORE the association bylaws that stipulate it should be a person that within the past 12 months before the selection has had a successful representation and has helped unite the people living in the United States and Mexico, but then again the last 3 or 4 Mr. Amigo have been the favorite actor or actress of the president of the organization. No wonder Fiestas Mexicanas, Border Fest have tripled their attendance and Charro Days is going down the gutters.

Charro days is ghetto. Borderfest blows away the Sombrerro. I wish the organizers could visit other events and try to do the same here because they don't know what they are doing. They don't change nothing because that involves work. The Sombrerro organizers just go around drinking in the golf carts. The police don't do nothing because of their friends. The carnival is the best because they are from out of town Jajajaja! Maybe add a farting contest after the charro bean contest? Jajajaja.
