Antonio Martinez is mayor, and will continue to be mayor, for one reason. He is a product of patron system that keeps the ignorant masses in a state of semi-slavery. Until Brownsville breaks away from the system, it will just be more of the same. He is the brown man's George Parr.

ReplyDeleteI went to early vote today at the Brownsville Public Library main branch. To my surprise, there were at least 12 to 15 people voting at about 10:30 am. Most of them were Anglo (a couple of Mexican-Americans) most of them were senior citizens ( a couple of women and one guy probably in their 40's). I had to enter through Coria since the right lane on Central was blocked with orange cones. It was so "weird" to see people with signs that you could tell were friends or relatives of the candidates and not your typical "politiqueros" Driving down Price Road, since the community clinic is also an early voting site, you could see people on the side opposite the clinic holding Sergio Zarate signs.
ReplyDeleteI hope voters continue to do early voting and / or show up on election day. Remember: IF YOU DONT VOTE< DONT COMPLAIN.
Vote for anybody but Mayor Martinez. Anybody. Hold you nose if necessary, but go vote. If you don't--you can't bitch later.
