Tonight, the City Commission will likely approve this ill-conceived plan despite clear public opposition.
To illustrate how poorly thought out this idea was, the original plan called for the new bike lane to run parallel to the seldom used Battlefield Hike & Bike Trail running through Terminal Park, making for two bike trails within 70 feet of each other. Actually, it was all about salivating over an unspent $150,000 TXdot grant.
Many prominent citizens knew the proposal was foolish and emailed their concerns to City Commissioner Rose Gowen. We have links to those emails below.

ReplyDeletejust like that unused covered parking lot that was constructed next to the old mother perpetual nursing home that allegedly cost $250k. All from funds of a grant that went unused. They needed to use those funds and that covered parking lot use the best they could come up with.

ReplyDeleteHave actually been thinking of Rose Zavaletta/Zavaleta Gowen during this rainy weather lately. I think of Rose Gowen when I see people standing in the rain and the weeds waiting for buses. These people depend on the buses, but the city has done little to provide shelter from the weather and many stops have neither shelter nor sidewalks....to comply with ADA standards. While most of the bicylists I see have thousand dollar bikes and all the best gear possiible. Rose is pandering to the rich and disregarding the poor. So now she wants to cut one lane of traffic and make a bike lane; parallel to another bike land that runs through linear park.
