DA Saenz~Wristslaps for Political Buddies, Full Force Against Dreaded 8-Liners

33 comments:

  1. Luis Saenz is using the "witch hunt" against 8-Liners as a way to periodically get his face and office in the media. He has named his "witch hunt" against 8-Liners "Operation Bishop" and seems to use it when there is a lull in media attention and as a diversion when there is a question about his office not taking actions.....as in the Gus Reyna issue. Sheriff Lucio won't take action and therefore Luis and the DA's Office won't take action....so bring in the assault on 8-Liners. It is interesting too, that as he attacks 8-Liners, Starr County officials have legalized 8-Liners as a means to increase county revenues (by charging an annual "tax" of $500 per machine). Luis Saenz is a Democrat and as such, we cannot expect him to take on his on party officials. Luis Saenz is therefore part of the problem in this county......corruption,favoritism and patronismo. Little has changed in the DA's Office.....just the nameplate on the door.

    1. Sounds like the owner of the 8 liner that got busted this week. Get a real job coward.

  2. The most un-manicured moustache in South Texas. Perhaps it is a Democratic moustache.....crooked and can't be made straight.

  3. Saenz missed some opportunities to clean up our county. Likely, his connection to the old guard, his own personal skeletons put a damper on law enforcement. Maybe someday we have a district attorney in Cameron County.

  4. Operation 'Bishop" is clearly a religious crusade to please the church, which was losing revenue due to the maquinitas.

    1. Says who? A bishop that made that claim? The dear bishop should realize that the Brownsville economy is one of the worst in the entire nation.

  5. He is just following orders from the Catholic Bishop because the church donations have been less and less in the last five years.

  6. Common Folk, like myself, just stand in awe at how the people we elect take advantage of their positions in our city.

  7. It is easy to blame the sweepstakes and eight liners with statements that people spend their money in these places instead of donating to the church. And, others make statements to the effect that people should not be spending their money in these type of places for the reasons they use to judge those who visit these type of establishments for entertainment. The problem with these people is who made them judge to mandate how people should spend their earned money? We all h ave vices and chose how we spend money. I spend my money on saving pets, does that give someone the right to judge me and force me to spend my money in ways they approve instead of saving pets? Little girls learned early on how to spend money by shopping and they have mastered this practice as grown women, with some being extravagant with their money, does this give others the right to close down the malls so the women that spend money on things they do not need stop shopping? Some like to eat out alot instead or go to bars for entertainment, does this give those who do not approve the spending in restaurants or bars for entertainment the right to close all the bars down? This is how ridiculous it is to be telling others how they should or should not spend their money. To say poor people are taken advantage by allowing sweepstakes to exist is a statement that creates a perception that adults that do not conform to their thinking should not have constitutional rights, unless it meets their definition on how people should live and have a free will. My response to these people is that you do not have to like or approve how people choose to spend their money, but respect people's rights to make their own choices.

    1. Did you respect the wishes of people to spend their money as they wished Pat?

  8. On another note, the DA Luis Saenz shuts down my sweepstakes establishment that cost me a couple of hundred grand to set up with city approval and all I spoke with said it was legal, but his mission was to arrest and parade the big fish he caught. Now, he allows the exact same type of sweepstakes to operate at some of the Lopez Food stores, but only allows five machines and they can only pay with vouchers. Leave it to Luis Saenz to justify the sinners that donate to the church, while he crucifies the none church goers. This man has no credibility with the baggage he has and the dark side he courts, oh but he repented and was cleansed of all sin while his nephew stole $150,000 and got special treatment, or his other nephew is involved in a hit and run and gets special treatment, or his sister Aurora fixes cases and gets special treatment. Next will know, Luis will be smoking pot, but he will prosecute those that are caught to the max or the repentance cleansed him and now he can throw rocks at others.

    1. You broke the law. They shut you down because you were operating an establishment illegally. Do you expect the D.A. to look the other way? What makes you think you are above the law?

    2. Anonymous &:16 a.m. Again, you like others become my prosecutor, judge, and jury, when as of today, I have not been found guilty of anything. You would like nothing more than to bury me, but I am not as easy as you think. I am here and will continue to be here for as long as the good Lord allows me to be and he takes care of my enemies. Carmen's and Charlie's Sweepstakes were allowed to operate for more than 10 years, but that was legal and according to you, mine was not. The biggest problem with Brownsville is people like you who relish on the misfortune of others and wish others ill, but in the end the dark side is exposed and they fail in their quest. The pettiness and jealousies is our down fall as a city, because of people like you.

  9. By the way Anonymous 7:14 A.M., look beyond me and tell me why you are not demanding accountability for the way our mayor fleeced taxpayers with extravagant real estate purchases not worth their value, like the Nylon property that is valued at $635K by me as an appraiser and $670K by the Appraisal District? Why are you so indifferent to the favoritism when our District Clerk fixes cases and nothing is done about it or the hit and run our DA's nephew is involved but again, nothing, or the $150,000 stolen from a daycare by his other relative Joey de la Garza and again nothing. Then you have the other incidents of favoritism where he looks the other was when it comes to eight liners that are illegal operating based on actual law.

    1. So you are saying because he let others get away with a crime, he should extend you the same courtesy? You are delusional.

  10. Anonymous 7:14 a.m., not only did I not spend taxpayers money extravagantly I used my personal funds for many city related expenses. You cannot pinpoint to one misuse of funds, but I can tell you I saved and made the city millions. Compare my record to our present mayor and there is no comparison, because I was not only engaged, I cared about our city and did everything I could to make it better. I was accessible and brought transparency to the process. Compare this to the micro management, extravagant spending and real estate purchases we do not need, but that makes you happy. Compare to the reduction in utility rates to the increase rates by this mayor and commission. Compare the Tenaska purchase of $1.6 million per megawatt to the purchase we did for $850,000 per megawatt. Compare the do nothing and indifference, to always being on the go to get something done. Fools like you are dime a dozen and empty promises like the present mayor to get elected is how they position themselves to take over our city to enrich themselves at our expense.

  11. There you go again Pat, calling people names when they just ask a simple question. You were a failure as a Mayor. Leaders get things done, by compromise, not by getting mad when they do not do as you wish...al mighty Pat. A leader is remembered by the things he was able to acomplish. You sir accomplished to bring divisiveness to the COMISSION. Period.

  14. Pat; you shouldn't bother responding to those ignorant postings.....it sounds like the idiot cris valadez and his childish distraction attempts. I agree that the d.a. does selective prosecutions and certainly not against his family or friends. ...one can only hope his day comes soon with the feds.

  15. Anonymous, 8:33 pm, I agree.... They will be out of office soon and you can help by getting your friends and family to the polls to make sure Cascos and Valadez are voted out. Thanks!

    1. We have asked you before, and we will ask you again Mr. Ahumada. Please refrain from openly showing support for Mr. Joe G. Rivera. You hurt our campaign when you do this. If you want to help us, tell people that you are supporting Carlos Cascos, that will help us tremendously. I hope you understand.

    2. This is funny, but true.

  16. Look, I have met with Joe and he wanted my support and I gave it. Now, if you have a problem with that take it up with Joe Rivera.. You will be surprise as to how many friends ask me who I am supporting and also why I am supporting him. When one of Cascos supporters asked me why I supported Joe Rivera and when I told them about how Cascos interfered with the emergency plan to evacuate citizens with the BISD buses and how he strongly went out all against the Weir Project, he agreed that we do not need people like that in government. People in government should not put themselves first over citizens safety or progress.

    1. You really do not understand the harm you are causing our campaign Mr. Ahumada. I have talked to Mr. Rivera, and he agrees with us. He thought you would just stop writing eventually, but you just get worse and worse. He will not tell you, because he says you are crazy. Just please, stop supporting us publically, please understand.

  18. Oh, then you want me to support Cascos? You want me to tell my family and friends not to support Joe. According to you! Sign your name.. Call or look for me, I am easy to find. By the way, the last time I looked, the constitution allows me to support whomever I want.. In case you are not aware of this, look it up..

  19. By the way, my credibility has soared, thanks to the the failed promises and the lack of leadership that has allowed all those things people are complaining about. To name a few, Lincoln Park would not even be on the table or anything similar when I was mayor, nor the Nylon Building, Tenaska deal, high utility rates, micromanagement, squandering taxpayers money, do I need to say more. .So, I would say you lack credibility and seek attention by attacking me. Amazing, how people now see the difference between promises and results..

  20. Anonymous, 8:00 pm. Yeah, I got voted in twice and do not discount a third time. You never know..citizens see through the political corrupt people like yourself who pretend to be pious, but are actually bankrupt when it comes to doing what is right for our city. You are most likely like both mayor Trevino and Martinez enriching yourselves at taxpayers expense. You do a lot of harm to our city and contribute very little or nothing. Then you try to criminalize people like me, for standing up to Juliet's, Trevino's, and Marin's of Brownsville and exposing their grandiose smooth talking plans that undermines the well being of our city. .

  21. The DA should be fighting real criminals instead of citing old ladies with tickets for playing maquinitas. They aren't harming anyone . Get the dope dealers, deadbeat dads and the like. The people obviously really like playing so the won't re elect him in 2 years because of this
