Commissioner Rose Gowen Blocks Truck Stop Because of Nearby Bike Trail

  1. I never thought i would be on the same side as this nutty bitch. But Brownsville does not need to put a truck stop near Palo Alto. There are plenty of other properties even closer to the Port of Brownsville or near Olmito that would be much better locations for it. We have already committed Boca Chica & Palmito Ranch to Space X doom. Why ruin another piece of Brownsville history by putting a truck stop in an unnecessary location.

  4. Excuse me is she not thinking straight? Interstate 69 was intended for other trade and the fly overs that are being built onto Toll Road 550 are intended for Interstate traffic. Does she not realize that with opening a truck stop near or off of Paredes Line Road would actually create about 65 new jobs in Brownsville. I wonder if it was a Love's or Flying J? If she blocked that, then she really has capirotada for brains and should consider stepping down. Making Brownsville healthier is not going to come from blocking a truck stop in the area. She is just scared of change.

  7. When elected, one is suppose to represent the interest and priorities of their constituents, not personal agendas and priorities. There has to be a balance and the public good must be put before oneself as an elected official. It is sad we are sending the wrong message to the world that Brownsville is not willing to work with investors who want to come to our city and create jobs. Yes, I am most definitely for the environment, but we must have a balance in order to make Brownsville a place where our children stay and not move away by creating opportunities and jobs. FM 511 is not intended to be a nature trail, but a industrial corridor to the Port of Brownsville. I think the investors can sue and have the ruling over turned if it has been denied. The truck stop can be built in a way that compliments the Palo Alto Battelfield area through smart design and planning. Unfortunately, citizens elect people who are not competent and are dysfunctional. They elect people who think the position is theirs, instead of those they are suppose to represent, this is why Brownsville has seen anti-progress for the past 3 years. Space X became a reality, because for the most part it came to us in 2007 through the governor and the state of Texas supported this project. Had it been solely up to us, you would have seen the egos kill this project. I know because it was during my tenure as mayor. Jason Hilts and Gilbert Salinas deserve for the most part the credit for keeping the egos in check to make Space X a reality.

    1. Sorry, Pat, the world is not getting that "message." In fact, nobody north of Olmito gives a shit about Brownsville. It is in South Texas, next to the Mexican border, populated by a few thousand unambitious people who really should bathe more often. No, sir, don't look to the world. Look inward, Pat. And see how rotten you heart is, as is every dark heart in this abandoned town. YEAH!!!!

    2. Populated by a few thousand? The greater metropolitan area of the Valley and the Mexican side of the river is close to 3 million people. It is the third largest in Texas and would be the in the top ten in the US. The numbers are there. What is not there is leadership that is not made up of thieving pieces of shit.

    3. Space X didn't start looking at Brownsville in 2007. It was more 2010. And it wasn't their first choice, but the ranchers north of here didn't want them. Guess they missed the mark.

    4. This is about a truck stop, not SpaceX. What a stretch for a tie -in. It is not like they are going to. fuel up the rockets there.

  9. A truck stop isn't a bad idea, but putting it next to Palo Alto battlefield is. Would these same gasaholics want a 75 acre truck stop next to Arlington National Cemetery? They'd probably pave over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier if it "created jobs". What good is a "job" if it destroys the quality of life of the citizens and disrespects the history and sacrifices of the American and Mexican people?
I keep hearing complaints about how few people use that bicycle trail, but how many cars and trucks actually use that toll road every day? I think the numbers are just about even, but maybe the bicycle trail is ahead.

  10. You know, none of this would have come up if GBIC hadn't screwed with the historical overlay zone so they could squander money on of of their two boondoggle Industrial Parks. Now that they have some new bright and shiny places to squander money into the usual suspects pockets, They will just sit there like Titian Tire.

  13. Anonymous, 6:00 a.m., the only P____ is you... and we are all paying for your hate and illusionary leadership. Let's see, you voted to get me out and hate me for all the reasons you can think of and you got a higher tax rate, higher utility rates, anti-progress/Business; and all they can blatantly steal from taxpayers with no fear of repercussions, after all you support this kind of leadership in government. I was not good enough for you, then jump for joy and bend over.... LOL! No sweat off my back...
