Lot Demolition to Begin Monday on Downtown Parking Garage

Two former parking lots across for La Plaza Multimodal Terminal on E. Adams Street have been turned over to SpawGlass Contracting for construction of a new downtown parking garage to be completed late February 2015.

This past week, according to Assistant Brownsville Metro Director Andrew Munoz, the property has been enclosed, electric conduit has been placed underground from International Blvd. to 14th St. providing power on the construction site.

"No service interruption was experienced downtown during the placement of electric conduit," stated Munoz at the June 4 meeting of the Brownsville Metro Advisory Board.

Concrete demolition of the two lots will commence Monday, June 9.

SpawGlass will utilize the former Portillo Jewelry location as an office during construction.  Recently, the company has been using available space in the multimodal facility.

A groundbreaking ceremony, originally scheduled for last week, will be rescheduled, according to Munoz.

"The mayor has had some difficult issues recently affecting his schedule," stated Munoz.

"He has asked us to get with the Mayor Pro Tem and reschedule the groundbreaking ceremony."
