| Hunt Pan Am at Brownsville Airport |
Since the meeting we've learned that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, I.C.E., has terminated their relationship with the Harlingen International Airport to send deportees back to Central and South America and is using the Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport, at least on a trial basis for the last 60 days.
Buses of deportees surrounded by armed I.C.E. agents have been observed around the Hunt-Pan Am building as early as 7:00 AM. We're told that airport personnel are not involved with everything being handled by I.C.E.
A call to Hunt-Pan Am this morning verified the company indeed has a relationship with Immigration and Customs, but they would not give out details. When I mentioned that airport revenue seemed to be up considerable because of this operation, the agent said: "Of course."
Both Hunt-Pan Am and the airport are likely beneficiaries of what has been reported as a trial relationship. Hunt-Pan Am is what is known as a Fixed Base Operator, providing services for a fee while the airport collects landing fees and other revenue.
Hopefully the City and airport management have the ability to keep the deal on for a long time, as long as one of the City geniuses don't come up with an idea of asking more benefits from INS and scare them away.
ReplyDeleteThere are around 12 million "undocumented" people in the US. If they all depart from BRO that will make it the largest airport in the world. Maybe Space X can get a contract to send them into outer space from Boca Chica. Ironically, at least 10% of Brownsville's "native" population on any given day are "undocumented" but nobody gives a shit. How's that Chacha working out for you?

DeleteThey should get those flights going 24-7. If the price is right, let's say $125.00 round trip to puerto Vallarta , I am willing to give them a try. I am low maintenance and have a flexible schedule. And it will save me a trip to Harlingen or McAllen where I currently fly out of.

Wrong information, the detainees are being moved to other US installations like El Paso due to overcrowding. They are not being deported.
