ReplyDeleteIf you want to play the ethnicity card at least do it correctly. Her name is Jessica Puente de Bradshaw. Hyphenated names do not indicate marriage. If you are going to use multiple surnames follow the native convention, not some made-up (proper use of hyphen) bullshit. It has reached the point of such subterfuge that some Anglo men are using their Latina wife's surname to gain an affirmative action and other perceived advantage in life. The most pathetic thing about all this is that most people in Brownsville are bi-illiterate and woefully ignorant of even the most common customs, culture and history of Mexico. And, have maybe been to Cancun once.

DeleteObviously the people who responded above don't know who Jessica is or why she might be considered for this position. It is amazing that so many ignorant people in the area respond to this blog with vitriolic references and criticism....and as usual there is always someone to point out the "ethnic" issues...or technical use of hyphons and such. Jessica would be a great choice, but why not wait another month and appoint the "elected" commissioner to fill the remainder of Ernie's term. I would rather wait until Alex defeats the "undertaker" husband of Elia, then appoint Alex to take the seat. Carlos is a smart guy and not sure a "new" face for eight months is good. Not even sure she is a resident of PCT 2.

Jessica is a primo candidate to end local corruption in Cameron County......but unfortunately most, especially Democrats, don't want corruption to go away. DeleteRegardless of qualifications or intentions, it would make no sense to appoint someone to finish out a 7 month term. Appointing the winner of the May run off between Dominguez and Lopez would be the most advantageous for the precinct, only because there is no republican, libertarian or independent on the ballot in November.
