From the editor: As stated in our previous article, an executive session at the coming February 4th City Commission meeting will deal with some sort of property or property/cash exchange between the City of Brownsville and UTB. While it is difficult to know exactly the items to be discussed in such a closed discussion, I've been told it includes the transfer of two parcels of land totaling 76 acres which includes Brownsville's Lincoln Park. UT will use, it it said, the newly acquired land parcels for buildings associated with the newly amalgamated UT-RGV, Brownsville Campus.
We've also been told that, while two land parcels will be transferred to UT, the City of Brownsville will receive approximately $6,000,000 from the UT system for the land, that there will be an effort to add some of the lost amenities from Lincoln Park to Gonzalez Park. Any funds remaining will be used to enhance the Belden Hike & Bike Trail in West Brownsville.
Below is a pictorial review of what Brownsville loses with the transfer of Lincoln Park:

Thanks Jim. This park can't be replaced.
ReplyDeleteI say, don't give it up! These parks should be treated no different than our National Parks, which no one would ever consider selling.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the park empty?
ReplyDeleteThe pics were taken before breakfast Saturday morning.
DeleteWhy is Tony Martinez so focused on giving away property to UT....is it just to placate Julieta...because UT has given this city NADA over the years. Julieta has made herself rich off the public tit here...but we have nothing to show for all the tax investment to her "partnership" which failed. Tony Martinez seems willing to give away the farm for Julieta.....Why??? While this city administration flounders, the upper Valley seems to be winning the hearts and minds of the UT Regents......because they are willing to invest, while Brownsville is not.
ReplyDeleteBecause he worships at a veneration station dedicated to her ass. Guess where you deposit the 75 cents?
DeleteUpper valley has a viable PROSPEROUS economy we don't. You can thank DUMBOCRATS FOR THAT LOL LOL LOL LOL

ReplyDeletePublic university would mean the space is still going to be public, just cost of maintenance transfers.
