Outgoing UTB President Juliet Garcia Whines About New Office

Juliet Garcia
During an interview with Brownsville Herald reporter Melissa Montoya about the master plan for the Brownsville satellite campus of the evolving UT-RGV, outgoing UTB President Juliet Garcia lamented that he new office was not up to the standards to which she has become accustomed.

The Brownsville Herald:
Her office in the biomedical building, she says, lacks a large window with a beautiful view because it was really meant to be a sleep lab. It was built for the school before the dismantling of its 20-year partnership with Texas Southmost College. What was supposed to house one of the associate degree programs that were eliminated became her office, and she moved into it in December 2012.

“This is our home now,” Garcia said.

If Garcia finds her new office digs unsatisfactory, we find her performance as UTB President infinitely more unsatisfactory as our June 19, 2013 Mean Mister Brownsville article pointed out:

Juliet Garcia's track record is not pretty. She has treated Brownsville's taxpayers with disrespect and the city's students with total disdain. Do we really need to refresh our recollection that, when voters rejected Garcia's request for $100,000,000 in bonds for construction, but instead passed a $68,000,000 bond issue, she spent 100 million anyway? .  .  .  .  .  .
Meanwhile, Garcia attempted to destroy Texas Southmost College, while providing students at the University of Texas at Brownsville a mediocre education at best with the state's highest tuition. Perhaps, as illustrative as anything of the education received at Garcia U. is the fact that none of UTB's 13,000 students even bothered to attend the school's recent City Commissioner Candidate Forum on campus. The student's nonparticipation in participatory democracy was further illustrated in the vote totals experienced when Mary Rose Cardenas Hall was recently used as a polling place

  1. Every media event by Julieta has a purpose. This whining article was obviously intended to make the public feel that she deserves anything Tony Martinez gives here........ Julieta does not get down on her knees except when it is intended to serve her. This article and her condescending comments was a performance for the public.....not honest, and not really true. Julieta serves herself and this article was just that.....a performance for the public to gain their support for the "things" Mayor Tony Martinez would "give" to her from the taxpayers. Julieta, Tony and the Kardenas Klan deserve each other....and add in Fred Rusteburg, Carlos Marin and we have a group that would destroy the city to achieve their own personal and financial goals.

  2. She also has other ignorIndian bhai individual administrators like suicidal Ben Reyna sitting there earning thousands of un earned tax dollars. Rustenburg, Marin are just the front line.

  3. Key word is "outgoing".....and the further she goes, the better for this community. Unfortunately, she takes a lot of tax dollars with her as she goes. Juliet/Julie/Julieta has sucked on the public tit for too many years and we need to ween her soon. Can she survive on her own devices....or is she like other politicos in Cameron County....can't survive without the public tit.

  4. I like her picture in green with a witches hat on. Seems more appropriate.

  5. "Core administrative offices, including offices for the medical school dean and approximately 30 faculty members, will be located in the building (Edinburg)." From today's BH.

What this means is that UT-B will get little or nothing in the way of new programs or funding. The choice areas will be in Edinburg, President and Medical School Dean. Just a little satellite down on the river. Maybe a "Deanlet" for UT-B. The Austin people never were going to provide Brownsville with the resources. UT-B would have been much better off maintaining its autonomy. At least then it would not be forever be in the shadow of Hidalgo County, the only real growth area of the Valley. I guess you know who you can thank for this.

  6. I am of the opinion that if the truth was laid bare, Julie would go to jail ! The lady has been drunk on power for years, and somewhere along the way lost her moral compass...assuming she ever had one!
