No Action Tonight on Item to be Discussed in Executive Session, Transferring Lincoln Park?

From the editor:  It appears that even as the City Commission may discuss the transfer/sale of two parcels of land totalling 76 acres, including the city's Lincoln Park, that no action will be taken at tonight's meeting.  Below is the description given for the executive session at 5:45 PM. After the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. and Texas flags and the invocation(Pastor Brad?), the next agenda item is action of the item discussed in executive session.  The action listed is "NONE."

EXECUTIVE SESSION: 5:45 P.M.
A) Consultation with attorney pursuant to Texas Government Code 551.071 and 551.07(2) on a matter in which the duty of the attorney to the governmental body, under the Texas
Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct of the State Bar of Texas, clearly conflicts with Texas Government Code, Chapter 551, and Texas Government Code 551.072, in the deliberation of real property, concerning possible exchange of property with the University of Texas at Brownsville and/or Texas Southmost College. (Mark Sossi – City Attorney – 15 min.)

ACTION ON ITEM DISCUSSED IN EXECUTIVE SESSION:
A) NONE

  1. "Exchange" seems to imply that the city will receive some property in "exchange" for the park. Any idea what that might be???

    1. There are likely more details that what I've heard. I'm certain, also, you noticed the words "possible exchange of property."

  2. This is about as good an example as you can get of the ruling clique deciding what's good for us. There is literally nothing they won't do to achieve whatever end the clique is seeking. In this case it's a woesome, pitiful cry for the nebulous goals of not-so-public education: Alas, if only we had more land; if only we had more money; if only we had blah, blah, blah. What is missing most of all is more students.

  3. There is another possibility with no action scheduled for the executive session item. Some attorney might try to rule that the conditions of the resolution of February 2013, that provided that, if UTB located "downtown," the lot parcels would be transferred. I hope this is not the way things develop as that would be mean the citizens lose a park with absolutely no input into the decision-making.
