City Unveils New Dual-Use Parking Meters Downtown

A near-brilliant adjustment to city ordinances on parking meters has been suggested to the City of Brownsville Planning Department.  New credit-card accessible meters would double as bicycle racks downtown.  While the city plans to triple the current parking rates for motorists, cyclists can park free.

  1. This is so ridiculous. City commission; "GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER"! I owned a business downtown. Trust me the city commission does not have any of the downtown merchants problems at heart. City commission; " You all claim to be visionary liberal democrats, why don't you just go ahead brick over all the streets, turn it into a downtown Berkeley and kill it off?" You all are a bunch of BLOCK HEADS!

  2. The bicycles are obstructing the sidewalk. If this is permissible, what keeps a ropa usada store from placing tables and chairs in front of their enterprise and selling barbacoa? As an aside, are those tlacuache pelts on the bicycle seats? If they are, please inform me where I can get one.

  3. Oh, another question, are those bikes owned by the famous bicycle tourists who earn $200,000 a year?

  4. Who would want to park their car next to a bicycle rack which could result in damage to your car. This idea is stupid. Get some regular bicycle racks and put them in place...even if the rack takes up a parking space. Whoever thought of this is an idiot.

  5. Rose Zavaletta Gowen says that most bikers make an average of $190,000 per year and have a Master's Degree.....why would they want to chain their bike to a parking meter. Why shouldn't they pay to park also.
With all the major problems this city has......this is trivial.
