Brownsville "Reverend" Suggests Barack Obama May Be the "Antichrist"

From the editor:  A man of the proverbial cloth has to be selective in his name-calling.  He can't call a person a bastard, an asshole, let alone a motherfucker. Biblically approved curse words are more religiously specific, like heathen, whoremonger, heretic or the dreaded Antichrist.  

Brownsville Bible thumper Alex Resendez, in an October 8 letter to the editor of the Brownsville Herald, strongly suggests that U.S. President Barack Obama is THE Antichrist.  Below is his letter:

In the Bible, 2 Thessalonians 2:3,4 and in the last book, the Revelations(sic) 13:18 tells us of the Antichrist who will come into the world, the son of perdition, the Great Deceiver, the Beast, the 666.

Someone in the White House said Americans are not reading their Bibles.  Someone has blasphemed against the Sermon on the Mount.

Could the Antichrist be in the White House?

If we elect a president whose name equals 18 letters, or 6+6+6, he could be the Antichrist.

Example:  Ronald Wilson Reagan or Barack Hussein Obama.

If this president rode in a bulletproof limousine that had been nicknamed "the beast," he could be the Antichrist.

If this president mocks the Bible and blasphemes against the Sermon on the Mount while in office, he could be the Antichrist.

If this president always talks about peace and bringing all troops home so terrorists can killl their own people with chemical weapons, he could be the Antichrist.

If this president spends $70 billion for climate change and has no account for this money, and the American people are stonewalled, he could be the Antichrist.

If this president is for same sex marriage and having babies, and for killing babies before they are born in their mother's wombs(abortion), he could be the Antichrist.

If the morals and Judeo-Christian beliefs of our four(sic) founding fathers and the Constitution of the United States have been distorted by this arrogant president, he has to be the Antichrist.

If the government shuts down because of his actions, he might be the Antichrist.

Let's consider how serious a charge Resendez is making against President Obama.  To Christians, as good as Jesus Christ is, the so-called "Antichrist" is bad, the embodiment of evil, a spiritual boogieman of Satanic proportions.  If Obama is this Antichrist person, he is singularly the most reprehensible individual in human history, warned against by biblical scripture for 2,000 years.  

Of course, the "evidence" the preacher provides, starts with numerology, assigning cryptic meaning to numbers, in this case the number of letters in the man's name.  Since Obama has 18 letters in his full name, it is only obvious to Resendez, that it corresponds to 6+6+6 or the damned 666 of the Book of Revelation.  James Lenard Barton lucks out with only 17 letters. If my folks had used the traditional spelling for Leonard, I might have been the Antichrist.

What this all amounts to is simply juvenile name-calling, couched in religious language. Obama is the antichrist to Resendez because he disagrees with him politically or because he is black.  Never underestimate racism as motivation for tea party Bible thumpers.  It is there, just under the surface.  In 70+ years of life, Resendez has been looking for someone so evil to identify as the antichrist.  He has made his selection;  the 44th President of the United States.
