Republican Club of Brownsville Hosts Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Republican Club of Brownsville Hosts Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman

Many consider Labor Day as the unofficial but traditional start of the primary political cycle. From now and through our Republican Primary, the Republican Club of Brownsville (RCB) will host various statewide elected officials and candidates.

RCB proudly announces Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman as our special guest on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 12:00 PM (noon) at the VICC Restaurant on 95 Country Club Road, Brownsville, Texas. The public is invited to come and meet Chairman Barry Smitherman, a candidate for Texas Attorney General. The VICC lunch buffet will be available for purchase.

Chairman Smitherman won statewide election to the Texas Railroad Commission in November 2012 with 74% of the vote. He was previously appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Commission in July 2011. Smitherman is a licensed attorney and served as a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. He previously served as chairman of the Texas Public Utility Commission.

RCB President Eddie Padron stated, "We are excited to have Chairman Barry Smitherman as our first statewide candidate as we kickoff our Republican Primary election cycle. The chairman is an influential statewide elected official, and we invite everyone in Brownsville, Cameron County and the RGV to visit us as we learn about his campaign."
Padron continued, "Attorney General is one of three most important statewide elected position in our state government. As a voter, I want to learn as much about each of our candidates for this powerful office. As a club, we want to inform the voters of Cameron County by hosting these types of public events."

The Republican Club of Brownsville meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 12:00 PM (noon) at the VICC Restaurant. The organization has been in Brownsville since the 1960s. Part of its mission is to inform voters and the public about the Republican Party and its candidates. RCB does not endorse candidates during the primary. On October 2, 2013, RCB will host Texas State Representative and Higher Education Committee Chairman Dan Branch, who is another candidate for Texas Attorney General.
