Vela Confers with Clinton in San Antonio

Bill Clinton, Filemon Vela

  1. Interesting photo. Let's hope that Democrats in the Lone Star State gear-up and find - finally! - a worthy statewide candidate to run against Rick Perry in the next governor's race go-round. I don't know too much about Vela, but the party needs a clean and positive candidate, Hispanic or otherwise. There was a time when Texas was a Democratic powerhouse (LBJ, Lloyd Bentsen, Ralph Yarborough, Ann Richards, etc., etc.) And it even, back then, drew in a young Rick Perry, who later bolted as an unabashed opportunist. At present, Texas plays no role of significance in national politics, other than that of a lapdog for the Republican Party bigwigs. What we get out of that is largely nothing, unless you count a handful of GOP stalwarts who set themselves up for life, i.e. Perry and his ilk. I hope Mr. Vela wins his race, and I would wish that his victory serve as one of those little brushfires that set the entire range ablaze. Lord knows we need something to avoid another Rick Perry term. And it would also be great if one of the Castro boys in San Antonio swept partisan Republican do-nothing John Cornyn out of office. The stakes on the horizon are too large to merely allow the Republican Party to monopolize state politics. Texas is nothing if not a home to firebrand individualism. The Rednecks hold no grasp on victory. I am discouraged to see some of my brethren wrap themselves in the Republican flag, for I know that it is not - and never has been - the party of and for my people. Those charlatans also must be punished at the polls. A Hispanic Republican is a losing proposition for the whole. At present, in the RGV, the Republicans are no different than gypsies, politically errant people who have lost their way. With every one of these lost souls posturing themselves as Republicans at election time, well, the likes of Cesar Chavez, Jose Angel Gutierrez and Corky Gonzalez roll in their graves. Even a brief review of the history - and platforms - of both parties yields an unmistakable portrait of which of the two South Texas should follow: The Democratic Party. Corruption in Brownsville lapped on Democrats is neighborhood politics, something that does not in any way affect the rest of the state. It should be cleansed, of course. But never lose sight of the vision, of the past and of the future...

    1. You said it! Local politics are just nasty; we need to get Republicans out of state office.

DP-M When did Jose Angel Gutierrez died?

    3. Last I heard he was teaching at UT-Arlington, which is a form of death. Perhaps that is what he means. You have to read deep into DPM's stuff.

    4. I am of gypsy ancestry and I am sick and tired of being berated, made fun of and used as an example of something negative.

Gypsies have always wanted to just be left alone; I guess that it is of no consequence to you that millions of gypsies were sent to the gas chambers along with those who were Jewish by Nazi Germany, but little is made of the fact, just more gypsy prejudice.

      Leave us the fuck alone.
By the way, to insinuate that Valley Republicans are politically errant is just downright stupid, even you do not believe that. It just makes me laugh to see that any Republican can get elected in the RGV; there are so few of them that to think that they are politically errant makes no sense, they are organized, passionate and active, maybe you let you ass get out in front of you on this one DP/BM.

    5. The democRAT party will go down since it's been taken over by MARXIST COMMIES starting with b HUSSEIN obama and practically his entire regime administration are SOCIALIST, MARXISTS, COMMUNIST, AND ANTI-COLONIALIST. We the people who abide to THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES will crush you commies in a few days. BTW the Castro brothers are COMMIES, their mother a FLAMING COMMIE, they to will become irrelevant soon. Don't believe me GOOGLE IT the facts are out there !!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Why bother with the RGV voters. .. automatic democractic vote. He is a follower not a leader. In the tv debate.. he just read off what Obama was doing.

  3. The Democrats elected from South Texas generally have done little for us. Solomon Ortiz spent 28 years in Congress and what did we get, NADA. He was on several Defense related committees but didn't give us a VA hospital. The RGV Democrats have filled their pockets by selling their votes to outside lobbyists. My guess is that Vela wasn't "confering" with Clinton, just a photo op (which he probably had to pay for) in front of the flag.

    1. So you will be voting for Jessica Puente Bradford? Really? You have to love her qualifications, perfect match for representing us in congress.

    2. As an INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE I will vote for Jessica Puente Bradshaw an extremely bright young woman solid Conservative verse on the issues that affect our everyday lives. She will defend our freedoms, fight to shrink our bloated Federal Government, and help restore fiscal sanity back in Washington. Mr. Vela is and he will be another OPPORTUNIST just like Solomon Ortiz. He's in it for Vela and Vela only. He has already show he is unethical and confused, one day he's a republican then a democrat, then republican now back to a democrat. His own wife Rose Dropped out of her GOP race at the 11th hour which make me suspect a deal was struck with Nancy Pelosi in exchange for Mrs. Vela to end up working at some prestigious law firm in DC. Just like Solomon was Pelosi's "Lap Dog," a Vela win, he too will grab the ankles for Pelosi, and we will be left out to dry AGAIN.

    3. Yawn. It's too bad the Repubs are wasting all of this energy on Jessica. A hopeless case. IF they were brighter they would go after the ones they could win

  4. Today the Commission on Judicial Conduct verified for me a case number has been assigned to the following complaint against Linda Salazar. Her JP page tells people to hire notaries to help complete lawsuit forms for filing in her court. As most people know - this is illegal.

    http://www.docstoc.com/docs/134468587/scan0008

My friend Jose Angel Gutierrez was shock to learn of his death.

http://www.joseangelgutierrez.net/eng.htm - I immediately looked for an obit, and learned there is none.

Also I have been asked if I am still in Brownsville - yes - my dog Keaton fell into what appeared to be a state of stroke - it was not - she has hepatic encephalopothy. Those dog food commercials claiming to have the most animal protein fail to tell you older dogs cannot handle the protein. I had to cancell my trip (I had insurance) the first 5 days required 24/7 care. today she is at about 80%. It worked out because 2 days later a copper pipe over my kitchen developed a leak - that is now repaired and today is sheet rock. This would have been impossible to manage from a plane or Bejing.

On Linda Salazar I am working on an investigation as to why the politiqueras pulled so many mail ballots for her when she did not even have an opponent.

On teh notary issue, it could lead to RICO charges against her. My next move is to have the Texas AG open a criminal investigation - we all know Villalobos will do nothing.

    1. It used to be said that a Texas Democrat was a Republican elsewhere in the country. Well, I'd say the same thing in reverse for Rio Grande Valley Republicans. They surely must know who and what they are, which, then, cements my point. Your knee-jerk reflex could use a bit of intellectual oomph, Maclovio...

    2. Mr. Paz, don't bother with Maclovio. He works for REPUBLICAN carlos Cascos and is generally regarded as a lightweight in Brownsville. You remember, he's the one who dreams of becoming the MEXICAN HOWARD STERN with that childish internet show. We would trade him to his native Matamoros for two donkeys without batting an eyelash!

  17. Lordy, Lordy, Lordy! Why waste your breath or Mr. Barton's time! It doesn't matter who wins this election! What ever benefit Cameron county gets from Washington, never makes it past the the fine mesh filter of Gilbert Hinojosa and Co. Every thing green gets sucked up and deposited in some compadre's business account for services rendered in a fixed RFQ process! We gotta get rid of this disease before any good will come out of South Texas politics!
