A Message from Filemon Vela

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Yesterday, I met the President and CEO of a company specializing in alternative/renewable energy. The outfit is called Texas Green, Solar, & Wind Solutions. TGSWS, and businesses like it, employ highly trained staff who design, manage, install, and maintain energy infrastructure ranging from solar panels to wind turbines. The renewable energy sector is a growing industry that works in tandem with the traditional energy sector to fulfill our countries demand and to reduce our dependence on foreign sources.

Our meeting improved my understanding of renewable energy and its status in District 34. We must continue exploring and utilizing oil and natural gas resources here in Texas - doing that reduces our dependence on foreign oil, something that both Republicans and Democrats agree on. However, we should also explore renewable energy to that same end. Texas is already the ranked first in the nation for wind farms and is poised to be number one in solar energy, too. It's evident that the industry will support many of the jobs of the future.

We need to ensure that South Texas is well prepared to take advantage of the job creating potential of the expanding industry. Currently, there are three wind farm projects in Nueces, Kenedy, and Kleberg counties pending and more in early stages of planning in San Patricio County and off the coast of South Padre Island. Their completion depends largely on the passage of a tax credit that is set to expire at the end of 2012. Without it, some say the industry will be devastated to the point of mass layoffs.

If I am elected as congressman to District 34, you can be sure that I will support efforts to attract investment by renewable and traditional energy companies looking to create jobs and infrastructure. Furthermore, I would support the wind energy Tax Production Credit. Those are vital steps I'd take to move our country towards energy independence while staying focused on my main priority - creating jobs and revitalizing the economy.

Sincerely,

Filemon Vela

Typical local English. This guy has no business seeking any elected office. Wow! That's sad.

    1. There is nothing wrong with local English, although I don't think that typo has anything to do with dialect. Do you think you are better than us because you married a white person?

The word "the" is an article. It is the English equivalent of "El," which is wildly popular in Spanish. Perhaps that's what led Vela astray. You know, like El Carpintero, El Bravo, El Rrun Rrun, El Espectro, El Amante, El Jale, El Fulano. That little word has foiled way too many locals. Most do not know how to properly use it.

"devastated" means devastated. "...to the point of mass layoffs" is unnecessary. Hot air from another would-be politician.

He means "...country's demand," of course. It's an odd error, because the "possessive" has been a staple of our area politicians. Ha ha ha

    7. Guevara is right on all three points he raises. Vela should have read this press release before floating out to the masses. It makes him look stupid and lazy. Say No to Vela!

    8. This is lame. Say no to Vela because his email had a few typos? Yawn.

    9. This is the guy you wish to send to Washington? And he'll float these press releases to the national press? Talk about humiliating his constituents back home! No, Vela erred in not reading/editing his press release. Rey Guevara-Vasquez skewered him masterfully. Mr. Vela, get some professional help, for you are no scholar.

    10. What would be more humiliating for constituents back home is sending a Tea Party candidate with money to Washington where she'll vote to: 1. End unions (who gave us overtime pay, the minimum wage, child labor laws). 2. Privatize medicare.(Leaving many seniors with nobody to turn to.) 3. Privatize social security (Leaving our pensions in the hands of Wall Street, who've already screwed many of us over throughout the recession.). 4. End public schools.(Cause everybody can stay home, like her, and homeschool.) 5. Cut taxes for the super rich, again. 6. Legislate with a conspiracy theorist outlook. 7. End food assistance for women and children that need it. 8. Vote to close the door behind her to other immigrants. 9. Recommend that pro choice voters to KILL THEMSELVES(from twitter:http://imgur.com/d4hLl). MORE TO COME.

  2. These effort here would seem more logicial than Space-X comming to Brownsville. I know Mr. Vela has a strong work ethic and truely believe his word. Alternative/Renewable energy is the way to go and would create many jobs if this comes to Brownsville/Cameron County.

  3. I'm very curious to find out if Filemon Vela struck a deal with Nancy Pelosi, who held a fund raiser in Austin shortly after getting the nomination, for his wife Rose to drop out of her race in exchange for campaign money. I also heard the Vela's have assumed he won this election, that they're looking for housing in Washington and that Rose will end up working in some cushy Washington law firm( a pelosi deal). Political prostitutes a La SOLOMON ORTIZ STYLE I think so. Political hacks most definitely. Mr. Barton Can you find out any of these rumors are true? WE GOT RID OF SOLOMON DO WE WANT ANOTHER????

    1. Sounds like unhealthy speculation from the number one conspiracy theorist (Jessica Puente Bradshaw) who admittedly didn't get into politics until the Tea Party came around. She told Stan Solomon - the major homophobe with an internet base show that she was just watching the news from home and screaming at the TV until she connected with the Tea Party movement.

We also need to know why Jessica Bradshaw wrote these things on twitter:

"Union workers are so stupid. Biggovt morons." "We have the fattest starving kids in the world." "Republicans have been compromising for years. Time to say NO" "We should wipe the department of education completely off the books"(a la ahmedinejad) "This [OBAMA & Congress] is Satan Evil taking over our god given country!" "Rick Perry is out of his league." "Karl Rove is no good for our republic."

She seems confused and not very congressional.

    3. Does she really believe that unions and the department of education should be abolished? That is something to be worried about. The tea party taking over?

Did you also know about the government "cover up" because aliens secretly gave the Mayans advanced space technology and taught the Egyptians how to levitate and travel through time? And Area 51

There are many Latinos in our movement and I'm one of many. What truly unites us WE ARE VERY PATRIOTIC AND LOVE THIS COUNTRY THAT WE WANT TO PRESERVE IT AS THE BECON FOR MANY AND FUTURE GENERATIONS TO REACH THIER PEAK POTENTIAL AND LIVE AS FREE PEOPLE. It's very sad THE DUMBDOWN HATE THIS COUNTY LIKE THE WAY THE COMMUNIST LEFTIST IN CONTROL. What consoles me HATERS LIKE YOURSELF WILL BE DEFEATED BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN YOUR KIND.

  5. I don't understand why people that claim to be intelligent and critical of people's writing skills; can't understand what Jessica is saying. Like me, we are also against Republicans who believe in big government! I read an article by Jesse Dorssett this morning about God and the constitution. Totally off base! The Constitution was not just written to establish our rights, but to more importantly, limit the powers of the government. This guy was saying that the const. prevented religon from interfering with govt. and just the opposite is the case! This is what the Tea Party is about and putting people back to work and allowing all to have pride in their accomplishments!

  6. Why don't you offer some of your personal thoughts on the subject instead of attacking anyone that attempts to initiate an intelligent exchange of ideas! This world is screwed because of characters like you! What is more pitiful is your lack of balls to identify yourself! I don't need to identify my self, I am not calling Mr. Dorssett a mindless seventh grader without an original thought.

  7. Love or hate Obama,we need him more than ever. Jessica Bradshaw and the tea party mean well but seriously, Romney does'nt believe in Jesus Christ as our lord and savior and his sidekick Ryan follows the teachings of athiest Ayan Rand. CHRISTIANS WAKE UP AND VOTE FOR OBAMA AND NOT THE ANTI-CHRIST CANDIDATES, add them up and they add up to 666.

    1. If you are truly progressive you'll realize that Jesus nor ayn rand have much to do with the reason that the republican ideology has been captured by tea party RADICAL EXTREMISTS and that's the reason you can't win. Romney and Ryan don't win because there aren't enough country clubbers to win an election. They can look big and massive as a bloc because they have the money for media, etc. but they'll fail at the polls because they can't get quite enough unfortunate people to drink their poison.

And Jessica and the Tea Party may mean well for the megawealthy and John Birch obsessors, but for the (heavy) majority of us in this District: NOPE. That's all that counts in this race.

  9. To ANON @ 11:51 a.m.: If you could get your head out of your ass and do some research you'd soon know your points are as stupid as you seem to be. Green energy never has been cheap. Nothing is at the outset except tacos at a new flea market stand. Investment is part of the equation, from the private and the public sector. The air you breathe is the air I breathed before you. It, well, comes around. And I know you're not against clean air, unless you're some Sewer Dept. employee. The power green energy generates is the future if Mankind is to have a future. What's with you? Do you think this stuff is free. "Free" is the key word I aim at you, for you strike me as the sort of dolt who expects everything for free. IT IS WORKING, you fool! Are you?

    2. Muchas Gracias Filemon for taking a strong position on this issue. We are literally giving ourselves and our children cancer, feeding them byproducts of dirty energy in our food supply, water supply. Lung cancer, brain cancer, many can be directly attributed to the chemicals being produced by coal and oil processing. Ask any doctor about the explosion of cancer compared to 100 years ago. Not just in people but in animals too. Other countries are shifting to green energy we should be at the forefront of technology like we used to be, bring new jobs to this region, stop poisoning ourselves.
