Mean Mister Brownsville~Comments of Note, Odds & Ends, Blog Reopenings

Welcome Back Bobby!!!!

Erasmo Castro Dragustinovis, Erin Hernandez Garcia
rejoice at the news that Bobby Wightman -Cervantes has reopened
the BROWNSVILLE VOICE.

Temperamental,  intermittent blogger Bobby Wightman-Cervantes has reopened the BROWNSVILLE VOICE, after closing it permanently on June 4 when it became apparent that no readers of the VOICE had the get-up-and-go to follow through on Bobby's research.  Bobby's umpteenth shutdown morphed into a simple two month summer hiatus after it became apparent that the blogosphere suffered without the wisdom of the disbarred lawyer, BWC.

I mentioned to Nena that Bobby's goodbye was reminiscent of Richard Nixon's statement to reporters after losing the California governors race in 1962:  "You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around any more."

Of course, not all readers want to kick Bobby around.

Eager for a blog that would understand their sincerity and innocent desire to simply serve the people and not call them bad, hurtful names, Erasmo Castro and Erin H. Garcia were the first to welcome Bobby back on August 4, 2012:

Christmas Village Casitas Put Out in the Weather?

We received a comment that mentioned that the Christmas Village casitas were now being stored out of doors, much to the dismay of those who labored creatively in their construction.

Here is the comment we received:

"Let's add another "faux pas" to the city's list of incompetence.  For several years member of this community have given time and money to create a "village" of casitas which are displayed at Dean Porter Park from Thanksgiving until after Christmas. The city has provided a warehouse to store the casitas during the year. Suddenly, without notifying the groups who donated the
time and money for the "casitas".....some astute city employee took the "casitas" out of the warehouse and put them outside, without regard to the work and costs, and did not notify the
people who have so generously provided this Christmas village for the community. Why would the city do that? Why have none of the city commissioners, nor the mayor responded to the Christmas Village coordinator???? Why does the city continue to accept ignorance and irresponsibilty among its employees? We complained that Pat Ahumada communicated too much. Now we have a bunch of non-communicators on the city commission. It seems that the city employees run the city (and do a poor job) and the city leaders are afraid of exerting any leadership. Again, points out the need for a professoinal city manager who trained to manage the city. But, as your article points our, that would upset the compadrismo culture of city government."

Mean Mister Brownsville:  After receiving this comment, I called Mellina Conner, coordinator of the Christmas Village project.  She said that, yes, the warehouse that housed the 17 casistas at the airport had been rented, necessitating the removal of the little houses.  She was confident the city would find another location.

I suggested the Titan Tire factory building or a garage built by the sheriff's department, but never used.  Conner is worried about mold, mildew and weathering of the casitas.

  1. Another one sided comment that bashes city employees by someone who has no idea of what the "village" is and who provides most of the work for the event.

For several years members of this community have given time and money to create a "village" of casitas which are displayed at Dean Porter Park from Thanksgiving until after Christmas. The city has provided a warehouse to store the casitas during the year. On the contrary!

Actually, the CITY stores and transports the village from the airport to Dean Porter Park. City electricians and maintenance crews spend two weeks prepping the site. CITY spends thousands on marketing and security to guard the villages. Once the "sponsor" builds the cottage, they wipe their hands and let the city do the rest of the work. Only a couple members of the community help organize the village, the rest of the real work is provided by the City.

Suddenly, without notifying the groups who donated the time and money for the "casitas".....some astute city employee took the "casitas" out of the warehouse and put them outside, without regard to the work and costs, and did not notify the people who have so generously provided this Christmas village for the community. Why would the city do that?

Actually, there was notification about the village moving outside until a secure storage facility was found ON CITY PROPERTY. These cottages are the property of the sponsor who builds them. The astute city employee is the same employee that puts over 100 work hours into the village and his heart and soul. He put MANY of his own hours into bulding a "casita" that he had to store outside, as well.

Why does the city continue to accept ignorance and irresponsibilty among its employees??? It seems that the city employees run the city (and do a poor job) and the city leaders are afraid of exerting any leadership. Again, points out the need for a professoinal city manager who is trained to manage the city. But, as your article points our, that would upset the compadrismo culture of city government.

These comments are uncalled for and are ignorant. Obviously, the person that wrote this has not spent any time on this project. If they were part of this project, they would know who the astute city employee is and would not bash him. So, don't comment when you have not put your time into this project. If not for city employees and city manager support, this village would not even take place. Mellana Conner is the MAIN person that deserves the most credit for the village and she is simply amazing. Other than that, a few people get together once per month to talk about what the city workers need to do and about how much money the city is going to provide to set-up, secure, operate, and take down the display.

Stop complaining about how the city doesn't do anything and city employees do a poor job.

  2. Looks suspicious that Erin knew of him coming back before anyone else. I guess BWC's been bought by the Hernandezes. Makes sense. His truck's been parked out in front of Fiesta Graphics a couple of times this week.
