Republicans Jubilant Over Sylvia Garza-Perez Win for Democratic Chair!

"The Lord was definitely with us." shouted a Teapartier, sipping on a Diet Coke.

"We're gonna party like it's 1980!"  shouted another Republican operative, reminiscing about the election where Reagan kicked Jimmy Carter ass.

"Actually," a sober G.O.P. veteran started, "Hockema scared us.  He had this whiz kid mentality.  He knows how to work them fancy computer thingamajigs and he could totally talk shit..  If he had taken his stepmom's name and run as Jared Hockema-Longoria, we might not be celebrating today."

"Damn Shergold scared the beegeevees outta me!" shouted a savvy Southmost party organizer.  "He would have turned Tony Martinez onto unions, collective bargaining and pie-in-the-sky Kennedy shit. We dodged two bullets May 29.  Can you imagine batting against Sylvia Garza-Perez for four years?  The record book isn't just going to be broken.  It will be obliterated!  I'm glad John chose to run as a Shergold and not Shergold-Villarreal like his wife suggested."

The object of so much Republican love is Sylvia Garza-Perez, the victor in the Cameron County Democratic Chair race.  While the G.O.P. faithful feared the skills of Hockema and Shergold, the Garza-Perez election gives them hope beyond hope.

"I remember 2006," offered a short Republican.  "Gilbert Hinojosa was going to kill us, until Sylvia joined the campaign.  Thanks to Garza-Perez blunders, Cascos totally kicked Hinojosa's ass!"

"I know," began another Republican woman.  "She was so pushy that all the blockwalkers became Republicans.  Then in 2007 she went to work for Ernie.  Sylvia got into a few catfights with volunteers and Ahumada got the victory. She just thought she was God's gift and Pat Ahumada agreed."

"She led us to victory with Cascos against John Woods in 2010 and don't forget how her backing of Solomon Ortiz helped us close the deal with Farenthold.  I'm not even going to  mention how she damaged the campaigns of Eddie Rodriguez, Rosemary Breedlove and Robert Lopez.  There seems to be one common denominator in every Democratic loss of the last decade; Sylvia Garza Perez!  God bless her and God bless the United States of America" screamed a Republican full of carbonated grape juice.

  4. Losing Rusty Faulk was a blow to the Republicans, this has got to be the best news they've heard in months!

  5. Sylvia Garza-Perez made history as the first woman to be elected Demoncratic Chair in Cameron County. She did it without much money and hard work. She has organized in campaign after campaign and paid her dues for a long time. She has a thankless non-paying job. It is pure service. There is nothing she can gain, because the job itself has nothing to offer, but toil and unfair criticism. Democrats, give her a break. Republicans, go run for office in Collin County where you belong.

    1. Sylvia is a conniving, backstabbing bitch. She is the LAST person who should be in the chair position. She has no concept of consensus building, but is a me-first self-promoter. She cannot afford to work for nothing and I doubt that she is.

    2. Oh Ed, your idealism is seriously leading you astray on this one. Her best friends are Ernie and Erin Hernandez. The Republicans have beaten her time and time again because she has all of Gilberto's crooked ways but none of his cunning brains. She had all of Tony Martinez' money to blow on Rosemary Breedlove and Eddie Rodriguez campaigns for TSC, (Tony Martinez and Trey Martinez were both treasurers and personally invested) yet still managed to screw it up so bad that Trey Mendez and Kiko Rendon cruised to easy victories with hardly any budget. Even I am sad for the democrats. I really had hoped with Mando's indicttment they were on the right path but this lady will set them back 10 years if not more. She is slow and her moves easy to predict. She's the weakest link Republicans love when she is involved in their opponents campaigns, because she manages, with her overbearing and controlling antisocial personality, to turn her own team against itself. And she is not smart in any strategic sense. This is the type of lady you see criticizing and bossing her kids around at HEB and instantly feel sorry for the kids.

    3. A turn of events based on her hispanic surname, against two white candidates who split each other out. I do feel sorry for the Democrats. It's an unfair advantage to Republicans, to go mano a mano with a "strategist" like Sylvia Garza Perez. Shooting fish in a barrel an analogy. No challenge, no fun, embarassingly easy. Watching Mike Tyson punch out a 10 year old. It's just sad. The next 12 years were supposed to hand the emerging Texas Hispanic majority vote to the Democrat party statewide. As sad as GarzaPerez performance has been, the GOP knows this timing is critical to win hispanic voters. With Garza Perez leading one of the top Hispanic turnout counties (into the ground no doubt) all but guarantees the GOP will begin making major gains statewide.

  6. Ed as a defense attorney, you are giving her the benefit of the doubt, but she is in bed with the Hernandezes, which means stolen elections, back door dealings, rampant corruption, etc.
