Four Candidates Introduced at Cameron Park Pachanga

B.U.C. presented its three endorsed candidates as well Yolanda Begum, who was endorsed by the Firefighter's, Paramedics and Longshoremen Unions, at Gloria Moreno's home in Cameron Park Monday night.  Three candidates addressed the crowd in Spanish, Anthony Troiani, congressional candidate for the newly formed District 34,  Luis Saenz, candidate for district attorney and Yolanda Begum, candidate for justice of the peace, district 2-2.  John Shergold, candidate for Democratic chairperson in Cameron County spoke with power and enunciation in English with his wife translating into Spanish.

All of the above underscores the uniqueness of our region, a merging of two cultures and languages not fully understood by either Austin or Washington D.C.  The existence and progress of the colonia that is Cameron Park, surrounded entirely by the City of Brownsville, speaks to the migration to this country from Mexico by men and women seeking a better life for their families.  Juan and Katrina who sat across from us at the pachanga have lived in Cameron Park for 35 years, while the lady next to them has been there for 37.  Cameron Park did not exist in 1970 when Nena and I originally left Brownsville.

One candidate not endorsed by B.U.C. or invited to the event, Sylvia Garza Perez, candidate for Democratic chairperson, crashed the affair without incident.

Below are individual videos of the candidate's short speeches:
