The Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Nature of Brownsville Cheezmeh

by Jim Barton on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 8:33pm ·

In his 1886 novella"The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", Robert Louis Stevenson  portrays a character with a so-called "split personality"  with good and evil, the opposites of morality coming from the same body.  In two consecutive articles on the Brownsville Cheezmeh page, Erasmo Castro embodies the twin personalities of Stevenson's character Dr. Henry Jekyll.

In an article entitled  "Mightier Than the Sword" dated February 6 Erasmo writes a sanctimonious piece pretending to take the high road of Facebook integrity.   He describes his role as a webpage administrator as one he does not "take lightly", rejecting personal attacks and innuendo.  He calls on all with the weighty responsibility of administrating blogs or pages to display "some semblance of ethics."   He rightfully defends his sister from inappropriate attacks.

Ironically, just two days earlier, the Brownsville Cheezmeh page prints a very ungentlemanly article making fun of Justice of the Peace Candidate Yolanda Begum's makeup, hairdo and manners.  The very page "administrator" who preaches to us about ethics and tries to shield his family from attack proceeds to do the exact thing to someone else's family member, even posting a hideous, ficticious portrait of Ms. Begum.  Hypocracy?  At the very least.  But it also certifies that Erasmo's platitudes about ethics, highmindedness and integrity are grossly insincere.  We publish both of his articles in there entirety below for the reader to make their own decision:

Mightier than the sword

There is great responsibility upon any individual who is an administrator for a blog or webpage. I personally do not take this responsibility lightly. Directly or indirectly we interact with individuals lives in one way or another. I am careful to the content that is placed on our pages and immediately offer a retraction when something has been posted that is proven incorrect. I have personally apologized to individuals that I have called out or even offended by something that was either placed on our page my friends or by me. I sincerely wish that all administrators were the same.
In the time we have been here as a group I personally have been called every name under the sun and have been accused of terrible things. I have learned to not give them any weight. This weekend an administrator of a new “blog” opted to attack me by insulting my sister and as of this morning going after one of my greatest friends from my recent past. Needless to say I am pissed.
We have stood together as a group and have been able to stop unfavorable individuals whose only intent was to hurt our community. We dealt with Charlie, Quintanilla and Pat. When we were in the heat of battle I received information dealing with marriage, family and children of these individuals. In the most heated moments when these individuals opted to throw at me everything plus the kitchen sink, I never posted anything, not even confirmed information, which would include and or affect a wife, a relative or a child. There must exist even amongst the greatest of enemies, some semblance of ethics.
To all who call the administrator of this new “blog” friend, I would ask that you reconsider your closeness to the same. Guilt by association is usually unwarranted, but hard to disprove. To would be politicians who opt to feed this individuals ego, please grant me the kindness in not communicating with me. I will always stand firm and defend, fight for and stand besides my loved ones. May we be ethical in our ways; quick to realize when we have gone astray.

On Taste…and we are not talkin about the free food at the Mattingly Meet and Greet

4 February 2012 By cheezmeh

And now is the time for soirΓ¨es and “Meet and Greets” , where there is a man (or a woman) of the hour who is surrounded by his/her supporters, critics, and the gadflies who are there for the free food.
But what about good manners and taste when one political firecracker attends the event of another election hopeful? We know class cannot be bought, nor can it be supplemented by campaign funds from well-meaning supporters and political groupies.
Why oh WHY would Yolanda not silence her phone during Chuck’s speech? A ringer should not be allowed to go off THAT many times during such an important point of an event. What are you like at funerals, Madam? And why – furthermore – was she “pressing flesh” with people sitting at their respective tables (whose names she did not know) to prevail upon them with flyers bearing her name and, without discussing anything she stands for, soliciting that their votes be hers?
The humble author is about to take it down a level:
Honey, it is CHUCK’s shindig. Why would you overpower his flyers and stickers with your own? And lay off the eyeliner. Maybe even lighten up the cut of your ‘do a bit – you come off as har d ad harsh and almost glaring with the way you make yourself up. Do yourself a favour. And keep the pamphlets away from the ones that belong to the person these people have come to support.
There is a “time” and a “place” to further your political interests in such an insistent and pressing manner. Such as, for example, YOUR OWN MEET AND GREET.
There were a couple of “may the best candidate win” quips to be heard after such an intrusion during what would have otherwise been a night of gladhanding and support for gentle giant Chuck.
Luckily, the White Knight man of the hour, Chuck Mattingly, was visible and prevailed with his notably palpable presence, as well as the many supporters in tow who acknowledged his accomplishments and CONVICTIONS – both legal and moral. Cheers, all.

  1. So Yolanda in the second article is Yolanda Begum?

  2. Their blog appeals to bored housewives, pseudo intellectuals and closet cases who enjoy exchanging catty commentary. Ethics! Pshaw! Every corporation has its own code of ethics. I guess theirs is to be right, no matter the cost to their integrity.

Couponing? Wannabe Reader's Digest fodder? Please. If politics were like the Golden Girls, people would actually participate. It's not though. Hint hint.

  3. Written like a true Mexican (a person from Mexico). Commas always sink these people. Why give it any attention at all, is my feeling. Ms. Begum, whom we do not know, deserves a modicum of courtesy. When someone cries about critcism aimed their way and then rifles some in another's direction, well, that goes to a lack of class and education. These people are border vermin in dire need of a bath. Cheese tends to spoil and smell after a few days. Who are these people, and what are they doing in my country?

  4. Erasmo had a good thing goin till he turned off a lot people by deleting comments on his page that he didn't agree with. All the smart people left the group. Now its just his sister Linda and a few other middle aged lady followers. The group is dead.

    1. Some of our former "friends" tried to promote their candidates on the page and then got angry and left when we explained that Brownsville Cheezmeh will not support any candidates until we know where they stand on the issues. Our "dead" group just had two successful forums and is now preparing for a third one for congressional candidates.
