Los Indios Overachiever Maria Urbina DeFord Runs for Cameron County District Attorney

     Yes, dynamite still comes in small packages.   Diminuitive, but driven Maria Urbina DeFord wants to blast corruption, child predators and drug dealers in our county as your district attorney, an office sometimes known more for those not prosecuted.   DeFord comes from Los Indios, one of those tiny settlements backed up against the river along Highway 281, raised in a family of migrant farm workers.
     DeFord initially chose nursing, inspired by her mother's neighborhood caregiving, with stints in first the Navy, then Army, totaling 13 years.  She then shifted gears, obtaining her law degree at Indiana University,  with extensive legal experience in Harris and Cameron counties.
