Justice of the Peace Sallie Gonzalez Precinct 5-1 is pressing forward with her demand for a 30% raise of an additional $12,000 annually despite Cameron County being strapped for money. Other county officials had similar notions but most including JP Bennie Ochoa eventually thought better of it in the current economic climate. The county currently has a $3,000,000 shortfall.
Judge Carlos Cascos originally pushed for county officials to accept a 10% decrease in pay but that was voted down by the county commissioners who opted for simply no pay increases. Ms. Gonzalez is pursuing the raise through a grievance process that will be heard by a panel made up of grand jury participants. Her job currently pays approximately $45,000 a year with an additional $5,400 vehicle allowance. The job is considered by some citizens to be a part-time position.

old news
ReplyDeleteYes, this may be "old news" in the sense that she had to file the grievance by Monday, August 28, but it is a continuing story because she may be the lone holdout for more taxpayer money. Is there a reason you want this story to disappear?

The gall of the judge, I hope Northern Cameron County citizens vote her big fat ass out.
ReplyDeleteRumor is out, arcades aren't cheap, isn't that gambling??? What say you judge???
ReplyDeleteLet me see, Jp's gets a salary, cell phone, car allowance, wedding fees, and wants more. I think, Sally Gonzalez is overpaid.
ReplyDelete$50.000 dollar's a year for part time work, hey where do I apply???
ReplyDeleteMaybe Judge Gonzalez, ought to return the fees for weddings to the county, instead of pocketting the fees. Helloooo, a Jp, works for the county, how about an IRS audit, just a thought....
ReplyDeleteThe anonymous comment above about arcades in touched on my Jerry Deal at MyLeaderNews.com. He states: "Leave the 8-liners long enough to sit down and figure out your situation in a rational manner. I think you might not be so ready to continue."
