Left: Valentina Gomez, bottom right: Mayra Flores |
As if Mayra Flores hadn't filled up the quota for dimwitted candidates, 26 year old Colombia-born Valentina Gomez has joined the self-described cotton picker from Burgos, Tamaulipas, in making a run for Congress. Flores is running against Vicente Gonzalez in District 34, while Gomez is offering her services to District 31 in Central Texas.
Just a few days ago, Gomez introduced herself to the electorate using a flamethrower to burn a copy of the Quran, stating she was "ending Islam in Texas," a lofty goal with only 1% of Texans being Muslim.
“America is a Christian nation” and "Muslims can “f*** off," Gomez stated while warning that rape and beheadings were in our immediate future if Islam is not “stopped once and for all.” The video went viral, but was quickly removed from most platforms, except Elon Musk's X.
Gomez justified her action by stating that Islam "has already declared war on you," also blaming the Quran for Hamas' attack on Israel in 2023.
When pressed, Gomez doubled down, telling The Daily Beast that you can’t make peace with Islam because “it has already declared war on you.”
Gomez gets around, having made an unsuccessful 2024 bid for Missouri secretary of state, when she used her knowledge of fire to burn books discussing LGBTQ, staged a mock execution of an immigrant while calling for “public executions” of undocumented migrants. At one point, the mentally and morally-challenged Gomez disrupted a Muslim civic event at the Texas Capitol by donning a hijab, then ripping it off in an anti-Islam outburst. Geez, Valentina. That was dumb!
In response to her latest stunt, Muslim organizations such as the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA condemned her actions as ignorant and dangerous, pointing out that the Quran teaches respect for all faiths and coexistence. The Interfaith Alliance called Gomez’s antics “grotesque” and compared her to Laura Loomer, another far-right personality known for Islamophobic theatrics.
So, here we have two Republican congressional candidates without much sense. One built her platform on her false claim of picking cotton, though born long after that process was mechanized in the late 40's. The other uses a flamethrower to further ignite racism.
