Keith Allen, Karl Burkhalter: New faces in local Republican Party |
This blog's editor received deserved criticism for referring to a recent conclave of Republicans as the Cameron County Republican Party when it was actually the Brownsville Republican Club. Admittedly, my error was tantamount to failing to distinguish between "hard shell" or "soft shell" Baptists or confusing Jehovah's Witnesses with Mormons. I've resolved to do better.
The G.O.P. meeting I attended at the Elks Lodge/American Legion Building was populated with unfamiliar folk. Certainly, I knew that Morgan Graham/Eakin is now in Austin, that Carlos Cascos and Frank Morris have passed, but it seemed weird to have Tad Hasse and Roman Perez absent from a Republican event.
Perhaps, that's why I gravitated to Karl Burkhalter, a soft-spoken, older man who used the phrase "BLM riot" in his first words to me, then explained how Jefferson Davis, not Abraham Lincoln, had "freed the slaves," adding that the Jefferson Davis rock needed to be put back where it belongs.
Also in the G.O.P. limelight was Keith Allen, a candidate for the 34th Congressional District and for the Texas Senate, a hopeful dual candidate. Allen caught my attention when he stated unequivocally that "Donald Trump was placed in the presidency by God." Approaching Allen after the meeting, he affirmed his belief that Trump was indeed ordained by God and served under God's direction.

Good to know God supports pussy grabbing, philandering and lies, it makes my old age look like it will be a lot more fun.
