Wise grandpas are a treasure. My maternal grandfather, Adolph Joseph DeMan, with roots in East Flanders, Belgium, skillfully raised a family through the Great Depression, utilizing every bit of soil, rain and Douglas Fir timber on his 1/4 homestead(40 acres) in Maple Valley, Washington.
Bernie Sanders, 83, 6 years my elder, reminds me of grandpa, as he glides over the country, "fighting oligarchy," but, also estolling our democracy. He's not running for an office as he already has one.
Bernie is using his remaining breaths of life to talk truth to the American people, much as I try to do with my two precocious grandsons, Jack and Felix, although I've relaxed those efforts, learning that those boys are fully on top of things.
What I'm trying to say is that grandpas can still play a role.
