Javier Sicilia |
While doing research for another article, I came across this man, Javier Sicilia, a Mexican poet, novelist, journalist and father.
Sicilia's life changed forever in 2011 when his then 24 year old son, Juan Francisco Sicilia Ortega, was murdered along with six other victims in Temixco, Morelos, Mexico, by drug gang members.
Sicilia decided he could write poetry no more, putting all his energy into activism, trying to convince the Mexican government to deal with the drug issue in a less militaristic way, but also touring the United States to speak to how America's drug dependency ruins Mexico.
The montage of photos above reflects Sicilia's love, compassion, commitment and profound sadness.
