This past Tuesday, the Brownsville/Matamoros Bridge was shut down temporarily while a contingent of U.S. Customs & Border Protection officers in full riot gear marched in nearly single file across the bridge and back in what was referred to as a "hardening" exercise. With the 30F temperatures, it was also likely a "cooling" exercise.

A 19 year old male, waiting in his car for his pregnant wife to cross the bridge, said the CBP officers screamed at him: "Get out of here!  Get out of here!  Go!  Go!"

The young man continued:  "They could have just tapped on my window and asked me to move if I was in the way."

  1. The City of Brownsville needs to educate the residents about how to conduct themselves when facing the Border Patrol and ICE. The objective is not to get arrested nor beaten by these strong officers. Also, the area close to the bridge needs to be cleared for the Border Patrol and ICE. There are a lot of people around the area that can become targets, hostages or killed in a moment of crisis. There are taxi drivers that park their cars there: that is a dangerous place to be for these taxi drivers. That small street can be closed and just be used by the Border Patrol agents. TSC had a fence around the campus, they should install it again. If something happens to a student, the whole community will be angry and demanding justice. Be proactive and do something now before things go out of hand.
