Make no mistake. The Trump presidency will do damage to our country, it's democratic legacy, what's left of worldwide respect, etc. . . .
Yet, Harris-Walz did not run a "horrible" campaign, but their dignified, intellectual, high-minded approach fell flat because the bar had been so incredibly lowered in 2015 when it was proven that insults, lies and con artistry was the modus operandi for success in a country where racism, misogyny and selfishness were shown to be our core values.
Even 52.5% of Cameron County thought they were voting with their pocketbooks, even though gas was $2.39 per gallon in Brownsville yesterday and the U.S. still leads the world in oil production with enough in reserve to last 44 years, making Trump's "drill, baby, drill" plan ludicrous.
Kamala Harris told us Trump was "unserious," but that went over the heads of the electorate. She needed to hammer home that he was a spoiled little rich boy who understood zilch about finances, had blown $413M of daddy's money in six bankruptcies, reeked of criminality like the mob boss he is, had zero morals, being racist to the core. Trump, she should have reminded us, is simply a fraud. Trump University was a fraud. The Trump Organization was a fraud. Trump was convicted of fraud in a civil case ending with a $355M settlement and prohibited from doing business in New York for three years.
Harris simply got punked.
Now, the sliver of good news, if it is that, is that it's looking like Trump will have an extremely slim majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, meaning he won't get much, if anything, done legislatively, with perhaps three Republican congressman leaving the House to "serve" in the Trump administration. Their replacements will come via special elections, meaning that during the first 60 days or so of Trump's second term his majority will be even slimmer.
Trump's 25% tariff plans for Mexico and Canada have already run into headwinds even before he even takes office, not just from Mexico's Sheinbaum and Canada's Trudeau, but from economic experts across the country who simply know tariffs like that don't work.
Putin is happy, though. He got his boy, someone he can play like a fiddle, although he's busy strengthening his alliances with Iran and North Korea.
Vlad knows Trump will "find a solution" to Ukraine war |
Ol' Vlad, who knows Trump can be easily controlled with praise and complements, really laid it on thick post election, expecting Trump to "find a solution" to the Ukraine war: “As far as I can imagine, the newly elected president is an intelligent and already quite experienced person. I think he will find a solution. . . . . . He behaved, in my opinion, in a very correct way, courageously, like a real man. I take this opportunity to congratulate him on his election.”
