Jerry McHale |
Recently, local blogger Jerry McHale claimed that a candidate for Place 6 on the TSC Board of Trustees, J.J. De Leon, had offered him a $1,000 bribe to write negatively about board chair Adela Garza.
That bit of information, if true, would and should effectively end De Leon's campaign, but, actually, I gave it no credibility knowing Jerry's penchant for writing dumb shit, interspersed with braggadocio about his own unquenchable libido and preoccupation with female genitalia.
Coupled with McHale's modus operandi in the blogosphere, that is, to hurl juvenile Trump-style insults at candidates who refuse to pay him or have paid others, is the obvious fact that Jerry is repeatedly trashing the two candidates running against Adela's plants in the race.
The photo McHale used to depict TSC Place 7 candidate Hilda Silva |
Is McHale being paid by Adela to refer to TSC Trustee J.J. De Leon as a "cockroach" or post a grotesque photo depicting Hilda Silva, calling her a "stooge" and a "traitor?"
If so-called bloggers-for-hire in our town ARE being paid to write hit pieces against opposing candidates for money, it's a terrible disservice to our city and to democracy itself.
Any candidate with integrity who becomes the "beneficiary" of such a hit piece, should immediately ask that the story be removed, even engaging an attorney for an official Cease and Desist letter, not even wanting to be associated with such garbage.(Remember John McCain's handling of things when a supporter wanted him to trash Obama, saying he was connected to terrorists: "No, ma'am. He's a decent family man/citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on issues. That's not what this campaign is about.")
Now, as the late Paul Harvey would say, the Rest of the Story:
In a phone conversation minutes ago, J.J. De Leon stated that it was Edwin Hernandez, owner of the Palm Lounge, who put $1,000 on the table, not him.
De Leon did say that he offered to pay McHale "for his services," but not $1,000, but says that Edwin Hernandez is a close friend, but also someone who knows McHale "very well."
This whole concept of paid-for articles to trash candidates disguised as "advertising" or even "journalism" is an ugly scourge to Brownsville and Cameron County and its purveyors are not journalists, but simply political hacks.
not a big fan of McHale
