Juan Montoya

One of our local bloggers-for-hire, Juan Montoya,  recently eulogized a lady he referred to as a "politiquera del barrio," then proceeded in his next article to do the work of a politiquero, trashing Hilda Silva, candidate for the TSC Board of Trustees as a "yes-gal," a "water-carrier" for former UT-Brownsville president, Julieta Garcia.

Hilda Silva, Candidate for TSC Trustee with 44 years in education

The monetized blogger returns again and again to the UTB-TSC spit of 15 years ago to summon righteous indignation to fuel his posts, with his likely patron having a role in that separation.

Then, without drawing a single breath, the blogger-for-hire, politiquero, if you will, trashes those getting in the way of TSC's board chair Adela Garza's apparent attempt to manipulate and control that board.

Dr. Tony Zavaleta

Even highly respected TSC Trustee Tony Zavaleta is now described by Montoya as wanting to "destroy" TSC like "fox in the henhouse."

Blogger Jerry McHale

Currently joining Montoya in promoting the TSC board chair's handpicked replacement candidates while trashing Silva and Zalaveta, is monetized blogger Jerry Mchale, now forming a blogging double team with a consistent modus operandi.

First, Juan pens a hit piece trashing Silva and Zavaleta, then Jerry reposts that same article on his blog, followed by pictures and catchy titles.  That's been the formula during early voting, likely intensifying before election day June 15.

Actually, there's not a dime's worth of difference between the old ladies and men who've collected mail-in votes from disinterested locals in their paid-for work for unscrupulous candidates and bloggers who trash candidates for money.

Both contribute to our local climate of distrust, apathy and disinterest in voting, with a recent election garnering only 4.79% of our county's 220,000 registered voters.

Why vote when your vote is cancelled out by politiqueras harvesting mail-in votes and the available information about candidates is tainted by "journalists" employed by politicos to trash their opponents, calling them "stooges," "traitors," "cockroaches" or "yes-gals?"

If the registered voters of Brownsville, Cameron County remain unenthused about participatory democracy, Norma Hernandez, Margarita Ozuna, Amadeo Rodriguez, Herminia Becerra, Joey Lopez, Jerry McHale and Juan Montoya bear nearly equal responsibility.

  1. Spot on. Yesterday Montoya blamed Dr. Z for the fees being paid by then TSC/UTB students. All he did was explain how the UT system works and how UTB did not have access to the big money such as UT. If anything, this woke people up to why TSC should not be part of UT. You are right, these people are the reason why people have given up. But you miss a part of the story. In the case of Margarita Ozuna the DA refused to prosecute. The Texas AG brought the case. But since then, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has ruled only the DA can bring the charges. No one expects Saenz to act. There were clearly 7 illegal votes in the Pena/Leal case. Saenz did nothing. The new method for stealing elections is to place bad ballots into the system, and then claim fraud if your candidate loses. This is why it is so easy for the loser to find the bad ballots.

  2. Plus some voters, make a joke of the elections. They vote for Micky Mouse etc In Mexico, voters destroyed the ballots by writing all over the place to protest.

  3. Jim before things were electronic I can vividly see the room full of mail-in ballots. A room full of steam, several clothes irons, and a trash can. If the vote was for Ernie it was resealed, if it wasn’t, straight to the trash can. The politquieros create more distrust with their play on words and are one of the major factors on why we don’t have the good people in office . The recent report of De Leon offering 1K to McHale was a no because he took 5K from Adela and co. They claim Hilda will be a yes ma’am to Zavaleta, which I doubt. But I ask what do you think Camarillo and Harris will be for Adela??? A pair of yes ma’am’s.

    1. While I've long since stopped endorsing a candidates, Hilda Silva did not impress me as anyone's lapdog. Of the two newbies Adela recruiited, Norma Lopez-Harris has zero experience in education. Camarillo, along with two siblings, presided over the demise of Incarnate Word Academy, an institution that had successfully operated 140 years before being managed by Camarillo and family. As for J.J. De Leon, I have an appointment to speak with Edwin Hernandez, owner of the Palm Lounge.
