Walking into the Roy De los Santos event last evening at the 1848 BBQ/Beer Garden, I encountered blogger Jerry McHale holding court from his bar stool, regaling folk to his left and right.
Over a decade ago, I did designate the battle-scarred McHale as the area's "blogfather," based on his long tenure in the local blogosphere, but I've never been impressed by the thinly veiled misogyny and highschoolish eroticism of his blog offerings.
Interspersed with photos promoting local politicians, the McHale Report objectifies women, presenting them as nothing more than tits and vaginas, useful only as sperm receptacles. It's an ugly look, but a Constitutionally-protected one.
While McHale's schtick has become wearisome, there were several people of substance at the pachanga; Jason Medina, a selfless promoter of workers at the Port of Brownsville, a pipe fitter/welder extraordinaire, political savant Jerry Danache, the always affable Hugh Emerson and, sitting in the corner, Attorney Angela Nix, a fighter and protector of children in foster care.
The promised "special announcement" from Roy De los Santos?
The District 3 commissioner is running for the City Commissioner At-Large position to be vacated by Rose Gowen with the expiration of her 12 year term limit.
De los Santos' rationale is that, as an at-large commissioner, he can be of service to the entire city, not just a single district.
McHale is a dumbass drunk.
ReplyDeleteRoy has done an amazing job as Commissioner! Go Roy 2025
ReplyDeleteA district commissioner can be a commissioner for all citizens! That’s Such a Nonsense statement. All elected officials should advocate for any citizen, regardless. The vote of an at large commissioner has the same weight as a district commissioner which proves my point. At large has more campaign funding than the other races, so to me this a chasing a bigger pot of gold on his behalf. This is an obvious political play on his behalf as he tries to gain the at large seat and attempts to get Denise Velez elected in district 3. Roy is the male version of Adela, he’s after control, do your homework and choose wisely when the time comes around!
