In exercizing our option to elevate one day of the week above others on this blog, we're not out of sync with the religious or secular world.
The Mosaic Law highlighted the "seventh day" as a day of rest from labor with an emphasis on worship.
Seventh Day Adventists, a group that predicted Jesus Second Coming or Advent for 1844, also correctly honored the seventh day, Saturday, as the sabbath.
Rabbinical Jews fine-tuned observance of the weekly sabbath to run from sundown Friday to Sundown Saturday.
Saturday works also for the Romans, who were already observing Saturni Dies or the Day of Saturn in their worship, Saturn also doubling as their God of Agriculture.
Yet, mainstream churches in Christendom inexplicably adhere to Sunday as their Sabbath, ignoring tradition as well as Scripture.
In the secular world Monday can be dreaded or anticipated as the start of the so-called work week for most, but that's now what drew our interest.
The Brownsville Observer is not particularly worshipful or bound by religious tradition or the secular work week, but is nevertheless intrigued by making one day of the blog week stand above all others.
We've chosen the day highlighted in the blues lyrics above in the song Stormy Monday, a tune the late B.B. King seemed to always play in his shows, especially the annual ones at the Memphis in May bluesfest as well as in his own B.B. Kings Club on Beale Street when appearing there.
Stormy Monday will be this blog's weekly vehicle to warn of impending storms or feature what is bad or even worse, but also sad.
It's a tall order to be sure, but very much the essence of the blues.
