FOOLISHLY ANNOUNCING MY PREFERRED CANDIDATES FOR 2024

Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg

When I posted on Facebook that my personal preference for 2024 would be Joe Biden/Pete Buttigieg, I got no responses.

That was expected, yet, when I watched and listened to the Democratic candidates for President in 2020, Buttigieg was, by far, the most articulate, seemed filled with ideas, while also a listener.

Then, Buttigieg went on Fox News, interacted with the rightwing propagandists of that outlet, actually gaining their respect, as he treated them similarly and I thought: "Wow, this man could actually help heal our country."

No real slight to Kamala Harris, our current VP.  She acquitted herself well in candidate debates in that election year, but her performance as second in command has not risen to that same level.

Yes, Harris was given the unthankful assignment of resolving "border issues," but, as horrendously challenging and deadend that assignment may have seemed, it was an opportunity to demonstrate a unique set of skills others do not possess.

Why is it that I can visualize Buttigieg excelling with a similar opportunity?

Now, if the fact that Buttigieg is gay is a dealbreaker for  you, I understand.  For so long, I shared such a narrowminded view of such matters.  You have my utmost sympathy and understanding.  But, with or without you, this country has to grow up and move beyond such self-righteous, Old Testament bigotry.

As so many commentators keep reminding us, Joe Biden is currently 80 years of age and there's a distinct possibility, that, if elected in 2024, he may not finish his term.

Based on his record and skill set, I'd be more than comfortable with 41 year old Pete Buttigieg finishing that term.
