TEXAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS' POLICY REVERSED: PARENTS NOW MUST BE INFORMED IN THEIR CHILD COMES INTO CONTACT WITH ANOTHER STUDENT WITH COVID

One of the things that prompted my son to pull grandson Jack out of BISD for now is learning the district would NOT notify parents if their child had been in contact with a covid-infected child.

"Dad, can you believe I was told that even if Jack came into contact with another child who had covid, we would not be notified?  I'm not sending Jack this year, at least not until things clear up.  It was an unorganized madhouse down at the middle school today."

Now, according to the Texas Tribune, school policy has been reversed:

"Texas school districts must now notify teachers, staff and students’ families of a positive COVID-19 case in a classroom or extracurricular or after-school program, the Texas Education Agency announced in an updated public health guidance Thursday.

This is a change from the TEA’s previous guidance, which didn’t explicitly require school districts to notify parents of a close contact.

Districts must still report positive cases to their local health departments and the state. Local health officials are also allowed to investigate COVID-19 cases in schools."
