I placed the following note on Carlos Cascos' Facebook page:
Perhaps someone can explain Governor Abbott's hard line on masking, not deferring to local control of health safeguards. Does he just want to "rule" Texas?
I've noticed no other countries of the world making covid-19 health protocols "personal freedom" issues. Only in the United States is this being politicized. We've been through this before with seat belt requirements, smoking bans in bars and restaurants, etc. Why has a line been drawn in the sand on masking?
From a purely political standpoint, this seems to be a fight Abbott will lose. The parental resolve to protect their children from covid-19 is just too strong and many, if not most parents seem unwilling or, at least, hesitant to send their children to school in a mask-optional environment.

Cascos can't run the risk of offending Abbott or Trump as it would destroy his future as a Republican candidate.
ReplyDeleteJim, not all parents want their children wearing masks for a multiple of reasons. Watch the news. Parents are protesting having to have with masks all day. Abbott is giving parents a choice. Why can't people understand and respect others people opinion. If people really believed this they wouldn't be going to bars, sporting events, family gatherings, parties or going anywhere else without masks. Yet you see most people everywhere without masks. Those people are hypocrites. You must admit that much right Jim.
ReplyDeleteAre you not from Brownsville? Mask wearing seems nearly 100% here.. . at H.E.B., Walmart, etc. Our school district has held firm to their mandate despite Abbott. Worldwide, health protocols are being respected except within the Trump worshipping corridor of the Republican Party in the United States.
DeleteEmployees are FORCED to wear it by their employers. I'm talking about the people not at work. Watch the Astros, Cowboys, Texans, Rangers, etc. games on TV Jim.
DeleteIf things are so bad with Covid why don't you complain about not closing the border to illegals?
ReplyDeleteI agree w Jim, this is not the hill you want to join Abbott and die on. It is especially moronic coming from a guy battling Covid.
