As a kid I was told "you are what you eat" in an effort to get me to eat wholesome foods, notably fruits and vegetables.
Similarly, from my childhood experience of being raised in a high control religious cult with nonsensical beliefs, I learned how the mental diet, the flow of information or misinformation, especially when your friendships and associations are limited to those similarly brainwashed, impacts the mind in a way that's extremely difficult to deprogram.
When I find myself automatically reverting back to my old thinking pattern based on lies, I have to consciously suppress the insanity or unhealthy view of things.
Old timers may remember Radio Moscow of the 1950's, programs in 70 languages broadcast to Eastern Europe, Africa and Cuba, disseminating Soviet propaganda.
Disinformation works.
That brings us to the Washington Post poll illustrated in the graph below.
The graph shows results from four distinct groups:
1. All Americans
2. Republicans
3. Fox News Viewers
4. Those Who Trust Far-Right Outlets like QAnon, NewsMax
Three conspiracy theories are presented.
The figures vary, but roughly 15% of all Americans, 23-28% of Republicans, 18-35% of Fox News viewers and 40-48% of those tuning in to far-right outlets believe the conspiracy theories presented.
It's scary, but that's the reality of disinformation.
Jim, I take solace in knowing the Fox News Channel would not even cover Trumpy Bears Rally in Sarasota Fla. tonight. Unless you have Newsmax you could not see this circus. Same ole song and dance. Preaching doom and gloom under Biden. Real Americans can see through this con man. We should let Republicans run free. They provide the best evidence as to why people should vote Democrat.
