CHRIS VICIOUS OF THE "SEX OBJECTS" SAYS HIS SONGS ARE NOT ANTI- LBGTQ+

In a recent interview with McAllen musician Esther Mars she offered some criticism of Brownsville musician Chris Vicious and his group, the Sex Objects.

Esther Mars
Mars described Chris Vicious in this way:

"He offends people and is a sorry excuse for a punk musician. . . . . He doesn't deserve any more light to be shed on his idea of art.  We were grieving over the Pulse massacre when he did his thing. . . . . He tries too hard to be something he knows nothing about.  Musicianship?  He bad mouthed the sound guy that night at the bar.  He has no musicianship in my opinion and you can quote me on that."

Those words my Mars prompted Mr. Vicious to reach out to us for an interview:

"Good morning. I saw your article on me and the Sex Objects. I’d like a chance to be interviewed and explain myself and the music. We are not anti lgbt, it’s actually quite the contrary."

We asked Vicious, a native of Brownsville, about his controversial lyrics:

"I realize some might initially find my lyrics offensive. One particular song, "Stupid Fag", is actually about a straight, business man attracted to a flamboyant, gay male."

Vicious, describing himself as "a male, straight," shared the actual lyrics to "Stupid Fag" and then explained what they mean:

“Stupid fag You stupid fag You suck my dick like no one can Stupid fag You stupid fag I need your dick I need it bad”

Vicious indicated he was simply painting a picture with his song, setting a scene:

"Each song is its own story and importance.

I have a lot of gay friends in the community that love and support my band Sex Objects and the culture described in the songs.
If you really listen to the content, we are embracing the dirty side of the culture that doesn’t get talked about. They all say they relate to my songs. I speak through my lyrics the truth of what I see in real life."

Future plans for the Sex Objects?

"We’re going to be doing our Texas tour, then hitting up the other states. Our demo will be released next week and look out for 2 full albums soon.

There is no connection between the Sex Pistols and our music. I’m the songwriter to all my original music. And no, I do not label our music as punk.

My influences are GG Allin, Darby Crash, Iggy Pop, and Sid Vicious."

When asked about Esther Mars, the McAllen musician who was very critical of Vicious's music, Chris said:

"I've never heard of her."
