TETREAU SWORN IN, BURKE PREACHES TRUMP
After a week's postponement, the official Oath of Office was administered last night for Commissioner Jessica Tetreau, the only city candidate to win without a runoff.
Flanked by family and friends, Tetreau raised her right hand as judicially-gowned Elia Cornejo Lopez read the oath.(Minutes earlier, Mayor Tony Martinez had stepped from behind the mayoral podium to grab a remote microphone, read the certified election results, then embrace Tetreau in a congratulatory hug.)
Attorney Ricardo Navarro, who so enriched himself over the years, losing fire fighter arbitration cases for the city, stood against the wall with a female associate, poised to join the mayor and commissioners during an Executive Session to discuss the Brownsville GMS waste removal mess.(Tetreau did not join her compadres for the session, recusing herself due to husband Art's truck washing contract with Republic Services.)
During the Executive Session, Pastor Brad Burke, the minister who regularly beseeches the Almighty's blessing on everything civic, turned to me and said: "Have we ever had a President who fulfilled all of his promises like Donald Trump?"
In a millisecond Burke and I were in communicational no man's land as I responded: "How could someone who lies every time they open their mouth fulfill any promise?"
Burke, staring at me with almost childlike innocence, asked: "When has President Trump lied?"
Recognizing the huge chasm between a man who gets his TRUTH from Breitbart and Fox and a heretic like me who daily absorbs the FAKE NEWS of CNN, MSNBC, ABC and CBS, I told Burke I'd watched a bit of the previous night's Trump rally in Pennsylvania.
When I expressed amazement that the supporters could actually find their way back to their cars, Burke smiled broadly, as if my insult had been a compliment.
