"Montesorri is so structured" and "Cambridge in England has a unique way of instructing" were tidbits gleaned as I sort of hung around.
Nurith with her Mom |
"We need more of these," said local attorney and talk show host Gerardo Danache.
Nurith Galonsky was there with her mother at a front table. I introduced her to Grandson Jack.
Nurith seems to be enjoying her campaign, interacting with the people of Southmost, District 1.
"I'm sure you're aiming for a runoff," I told her a couple weeks ago.
"No, actually, I'm hoping to win this thing outright. This has all been so expensive," she replied.
Although Ms. Galonsky has blanketed Southmost with yard signs, incumbent Ricardo Longoria, Jr. is well entrenched.
Rodrigo Moreno of Pink Ape Media will likely tell Nurith she needs to "double down" if she's fortunate enough to get into a runoff, sending her expenditures into John Cowen territory.(Yes, Bobby, I agree that Nurith is likely paying Jerry for campaign ads. Perhaps, the story will be that they're included in Rodrigo's enormous bill for "consulting.")
John Cowen, another nice kid running for city commissioner, will some day reflect back with embarrassment that he paid Jerry McHale to trash one of his opponents with "los juniors" racist slurs.
John should know Jerry pulls that dumb shit out of his ass and being identified with it, philosophically and financially, is not a good look.
Sara Stapleton Barrera, Daniel Lenz |
Barrera has declared for the Texas Senate District 27 against Eddie Lucio, Jr.
Lenz, world class bus expert*, but, also, the former owner of Hotel Economico downtown.
*Someone asked: "What is a 'world class bus expert?' " Lenz has been working on and around buses for over 40 years. His family still owns bus lines. As a younger man, he was summoned to Egypt to help that country initiate bus service.
Jim do a little digging and you may find a great surprise for Lincoln Park. The right person has approved of and is pushing for a music series of local bands to perform at Lincoln Park under the stars. This will be amazing. The last I was told is we are waiting on the city to clear the way. But the plans are made.
ReplyDeleteBut until the bigwigs at the city say go for it, it is just a very well organized plan at this point by some big higher ups.
Bobby WC
So, Blogsquatter Blimp, why don't you do the fucking digging? Lazy-ass.
DeleteJim do not approve the other one - wrong account. Okay troll I did do the digging that is why I can tell Jim this information. Jim has worked hard on building his entertainment section, forums, meetings. He owns this part of blogging. With the exception of the moderating I am extremely happy with his blog and how it is making Brownsville more informed. I wish him the best in getting valid ads. Honest lawyers might consider taking an ad. The fact I know what is happening tells anyone other than a troll I have done my digging. I walk though city hall and the courts with no problem with people very willing to share with me good things coming to Brownsville. This could be an awesome event. This is good for the youth and all the local bands.
DeleteIt is out of respect for Jim I want Jim to make the formal announcement. I did not expect him to post my comment. It was a heads up so he could get the credit upon verifyiing.
But this is his domain. I am certain he will get the information - dates etc and then get the scoop. Again it is called respect. He has worked hard on this part of his blog.

ReplyDeleteThere is a bus question i hope Mr. Lenz can answer.
ReplyDeleteI travel to SPI a lot for work.
If you look at the schedules, there is no route to SPI directly from Ruben Torres / 802. Even though Ruben Torres goes directly to Hwy 48 to the airport and spi.
There is no bus from the northside to the Brownsville / SPI airport. You have to go downtown to get a bus to the airport. You have to go all the way downtown to get a bus to Port Isabel. Now, let's think this out. The Brownsville SPI airplane tickets are usually 2x as expensive as those from southwest in Harlingen. The people who would pay 2x as much for the convenience of coming and going in Brownsville vs having to drive 40 min to harlingen, probably don't live downtown, in one of the poorest areas of the city and the country. They probably live on the northern or western area.
I'm sure Mr. Lenz could put all of this together with maps of the density of the locations of the people who use the Brownsville SPI airport vs harlingen, who would greatly appreciate a city shuttle to the Brownsville airport, and who would gladly pay the nominal $1 to go directly to the airport from the large northside terminal near the Paredes HEB, or directly to Port Isabel. It's bad enough being asked to pay daily parking fees, or cab fees, to get to the Brownsville airport because there is no shuttle from the north side. You'd have to get a bus to take you downtown, and from there to the airport, after delays and waiting, and maybe missing your flight. It is unrealistic, and one of the reasons no one uses the Brownsville SPI airport.
What i am asking Mr. Lenz is if he feels it would be profitable to add a third route from the north Brownsville transfer station, directly to the Brownsville SPI airport, and from there to Port Isabel. Instead, there is currently the Blue Line which is a university shuttle to the airport and Port isabel which leaves from downtown near the bridge, and Brownsville route 40 which goes to Port Isabel from downtown. This requires a 30 minute detour from the northside, to get downtown, to catch any of these buses, to then go onto your destination.
I proposed years ago before the new downtown terminal was even built to also include a second satellite terminal on the Northside, not just a transfer station, but a full terminal that all the buses would go to. From there they could have separate routes that flank out into other parts of the city. This would cut down on the amount of time it takes to get anywhere in the city and increase passenger counts helping to justify the service. It would also get people who don't normally ride the buses to start utilizing the service. So, I agree with you when it comes to having a route directly from the Northside transfer Station to the Airport, I would certainly use it as I live in the Brownsville Country Club. Keep in mind, that all City bus service for the citizens is not a profitable thing, all Transit operations nationwide operate at a tremendous loss and are subsidized by the Federal, State and Local Governments, even if the buses were filled to capacity everyday, they would still operate at a loss. Having said that, they still need to justify the service by ridership numbers. The only way to really know if a route directly from the transfer station to the airport would work, is to test the market and actually do a pilot for about six months or more. Another issue that would arise is hours of operation and coordinating the route to the airline departures for the buses. Quite frequently I fly out on the earliest flight and return on the latest flight. The buses do not operate at those hours and probably won't anytime soon.
DeleteThank you so much for your thoughtful reply, Mr. Lenz. As someone who rides the #40 or the Blue line to SPI and back frequently, I've noticed that there are a few Brownsville folks who use these shuttles to get to the airport. Hardly anyone from Brownsville relies on this bus to make their flights. Less than a handful ever disembark at the airport stop. However, ont the return route from SPI, there is always a packed line of visitors and spring breakers with suitcases catching the reliable Church's chicken (Port Isabel stop) to the Brownsville/SPI Airport. There is always a line of suitcase-pulling travellers utilizing the speedy shuttle from port isabel to the Brownsville airport. But hardly ever, have I ever seen a suitcase pulling bus passenger get on at the Brownsville downtown bus terminal (not even once) to hitch a ride to the airport.
DeleteI will also share with you a little secret. The SPI formerly "The Wave" bus system is now asking passengers to disembark at their new station for about 60 seconds and then reimbark and be recounted. Most of these passengers are from Brownsville. The idea is to make it look like there is far more people boarding the shuttle at the new south padre station than there are. This is because most of them are really from brownsville, not spi. I just feel it is a shame that somehow, due to the way the system is designed currently, the shuttles to the airport and SPI are coming from the worst possible place, downtown brownsville, instead of from the northern sections where there would be more likely passengers for the brownsville airport utilizing this stop. And then, that the SPI bus system is taking advantage of the travellers from Bville and counting them in their own system. Meanwhile Brownsville BUS loses out totally due to a badly designed scenario. Few people would take the time to care or understand what i am saying but I think you of all people might look into it. I hope they hire you from the bottom of my heart, Bville would be so fortunate to have someone of your caliber examining and redesigning our system. thank you.
