Realtor Craig Grove with City Commissioner, District 2, Candidate Caty Presas-Garcia
Local politicos may be well served to stay on the good side of Realtor Craig Grove.
At an April 5, 2011 City Commission Public Hearing considering a contract with Fly Frontera Airlines, buffoonish Commissioner Charlie Atkinson interrupted Grove's public comment to bring up a two decades old police incident when Grove was 17. Grove was not pleased with Atkinson's revelation nor constant interruptions from Mayor Pat Ahumada.
"Your time is up," the mayor told Grove.
"My time wouldn't have been up if you hadn't kept interrupting me," Grove responded while negotiating for a few more minutes to finish his statement.
That same spring, Jessica Tetreau-Kalifa was sworn in to replace Atkinson as commissioner in an historic write-in vote, orchestrated and initially managed by Grove.
Grove and Tetreau-Kalifa have since parted ways, with Grove now fulfilling a similar role with former BISD Trustee, Caty Presas-Garcia, now one of two running against Tetreau-Kalifa.
Choosing his words carefully on Friday's Brownsville Live podcast, Grove implied that two or more city commissioners, one recently departing, coming under the spell of goofy, millionaire car leaser, Mike Hernandez III, had been involved in blocking a $500,000,000 real estate development that could have helped close the gap with respect to Brownsville's current, critical need for affordable housing.
"I can't afford to get dragged into court over this," Grove stated, as he tempered his words about the behind-the-scenes developments.
Grove's fear is real. Two longtime local bloggers, Jerry McHale and Juan Montoya, once both mockingly critical of Hernandez III have morphed into virtual propagandists for the car dealer, because of litigation or the threat of it.
A third blogger, Bobby Wightman-Cervantes, seemingly relishes the opportunity to tussle with the Hernandez legal team over venue as some sort of a lawsuit drags on.
Lawsuits aside, the District 2 race has a distinct real estate connection with both challengers in the field. Caty Presas-Garcia, a local realtor, recently joined the Grove Realty Team. Her new employer, Craig Grove, is also her campaign manager.
Former Mayor Pat Ahumada is a longtime real estate appraiser, while his manager, Rey Montanaro, is a realtor and real estate investor.
Admittedly, both of these opposition candidates and their managers, likely lost money on the blocked real estate deal.
Brownsville may be the ultimate loser as unelected power players continue to manipulate and control the city's progress to their own benefit.

Why is it that they are so interested and pushing so hard for affordable housing. We all agree that we need it. But it feels that you all are in it for your own interest a way to make money for yourself from our citizens. And that dose not look good at all. People like this are the once we are trying to get out of our commission cause they only think about them selfs and what they can benefit from. What good is it for you to places them in affordable housing find them a house for $80,000 or $100,000 in 3 or 4 years they will be having a lot more expensive problems with that house. But yet you all won’t care cause you did your job for your commission and that’s that. I don’t think that’s fair for any of us.
ReplyDeleteI saw this show and it was a joke. Craig grove and his friends look like the want to make money off of a shitload of these people and the programs that are going to pay the realtors. It always raises my suspicion when these realtors want their cut. Follow the money baby.
ReplyDeleteCitizens please pay close attention to Katy’s, Pats and jessicas interviews. They are all focused on the same issue and they all advertise that they are in the real estate business. Are they trying to get free publicity??? It seems that way to me. They are all in it for the same reason to push more work there way as job security. That means they won’t be 100% focus on our city. And grove confirmed that on his potcast. That affordable housing will bring more work for them but at who’s cost. We will definitely need adorable housing but I don’t think its fair for them to get first bids on listings. Equal opportunity is what we need. And this people are definitely not going to allow that. All 3 of them are hurting financially and will say and do what ever it takes to get on this commission.
ReplyDeletePotcast?
Delete"Adorable housing?"
DeleteY el cheque que?
ReplyDeleteY el cheque apa
DeleteI am casting a ballot for Trey and Jessica.
ReplyDeleteCraig Grove in my opinion is not a credible person and has serious anger issues. He is a self serving ass kisser who is not even from Brownsville. Nada que ver Craig Gross!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy votes: Tony Martinez, Nurith, John Cowen and Tetreau. Deal with it.
ReplyDeleteLow information voter. Probably a illegal anyways.
DeleteHave you ever wondered why, to this day we let gringos like Craig Grove, Jerry McHale, Jim Barton, and .5Bobby Wightman dictate our political destinies? Nah? Me neither.
ReplyDeleteGrove is a greedy self serving arrogant stuck up individual, that thinks too much of himself, his tendency to make a great deal about every little achievement he gets, is a clear sign of a low stem personality, I bet my house, in a few days, maybe weeks, he and Presas Garcia, his new employee, will be fighting over money!!!
ReplyDeleteSpot on!!!
DeleteJessica has done a lot for our district! She also feeds the homeless and helps with crisis drives for donations like the hurricanes that devastated Texas! Craig is a bully and a fucking liar! He thinks his shit doesn't stink little does he know he smells like a huge pile of defacation!
ReplyDeleteI don’t vote in district 2, but my friends and relatives would vote for Jessica Tetreau
ReplyDeleteOur support is with Jessica T, Charly , Carlos G & and Mr. Longoria
ReplyDeleteBrownsville citizens this are the people we need to get elected to help get our Brownsville to where it needs to be.

ReplyDeleteIf she did that what makes us think she won’t do it once again.
How does age and physical appearance fit into the equation to determine a candidate's competency? If that were the case for bloggers, Jerry McHale and others would fail miserably.
ReplyDeleteCraig has nothing compared to Mike Hernandez, a fight with Mike, is so out of his little league
ReplyDeletei'm supporting tetreau after seeing all of this bullshit she has to deal with. fuckin haters man! mija hang in there. we got you girl!
