THE DAY AFTER THE CITY COMMISSION'S TUESDAY NIGHT MASSACRE~GETTING PERSPECTIVE

Miracles keep happening
The sun rose in the east today
I sat up and sighed for the millionth time
As the dawn was phasing a night away
The blues can last for just so long
And from the depth
There will arise another song
And I'll sit here in the sea and the sun
Waiting for that other song to come

Joan Baez

Ms. Baez is right, of course.  Today will be an OK day, despite the incredible incompetence and self-interest displayed last night by the city commission.

Luka Doncic
Yes, kids, Wednesday, October 17 brings us the 8-piece special for $5 at Church's Chicken, but, more importantly, the opening NBA game for Wonderboy, Luka Doncic, the 19 year old phenom, who, after winning the European championship for Real Madrid, the finals and regular season MVP, will now toil for the Dallas Mavericks, tossing beautiful behind-the-back passes, lobs and hook passes to hopefully ready teammates.(I may break training tonight at 9:30 PM to witness the game live at Las Jarras Sports Bar on S. Padre Island Hwy.)

Yet, while all may be good with the world, it is an appropriately overcast, dark day for the city of Brownsville.  Once again, the kids on the city commission have done real damage to Brownsville with juvenile gameplaying and likely money-grubbing.

Trey Mendez
First of all, let me correct last night's report.  Trey Mendez was removed from his position on the Brownsville Historical Association, a board he chaired.

Jim, I was actually removed from the Historic Preservation and Design Review Board and Mr. Vanderford was removed from Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee as well. When the mayor asked me to go up, I nodded "No," declining to address the city commission as I felt it was not appropriate.

So, Dillon Vanderford was removed from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board as well.

People in a position to know tell me this new "one board only" rule was "100%" enacted to remove Nurith Galonsky from the GBIC after she filed suit over the hiring of Mario Lozoya as director.

How mindless to remove Mendez and Vanderford from positions through which they've served the city impeccably and admirably!  It is beyond stupid!

Commissioner Neece
Commissioner Ben Neece mentioned some awkward wording in the newly-enforced statute that may come back to bite the commission.

"On Page 2, I think, the document refers to no one serving on more than one "commission or board."  Well, we have the Civil Service Commission and, of course, the City Commission.  Reading the statute literally, no one serving on the City Commission should be on any other board or commission," Ben stated, indicating he intends to press this issue.

Neece also clarified that his push back against the hiring of a City Attorney was not at all anti-Rene De Coss, but against the hiring process.

"Rene was one of my judges for years.  I'm not, in any way, against his appointment, just opposed to the process used," stated Neece.

So, if Neece is correct, this means that Commissioners Tetreau-Kalifa and De Leon should also be removed from the GBIC.  Actually, that's in harmony with the State of Texas' original intent in creating 4A and 4B funding for economic development and quality of life issues, that is to keep them out of politics.

  1. I'm so pissed that someone actually stopped and stole my Eddie Treviรฑo sign from my house . I wasn't able to get the license plate , but they had a CARLOS CASCOS sign on their car . It's shameful that someone would stoop that low to steal a political yard sign .

    Say NO to Carlo$ Ca$co$

  2. As an observer myself, I have to say I’m disappointed in Ben Neece since he became a city commissioner. Spiteful and vindictive is not a good look for a leader. He’s so horrible that even Eduardo Paz Martinez is praising Neece!!!

    1. Duardo's praise or criticism is irrelevant here. Much like a Zika infected mosquito, he's out there and hopefully, you swat him before he bites. BTW, it won't take much of a swat as the dude is 77 years old, has not taken his flu shot and cannot afford to eat healthy. I'm told he lives in squalor, sustaining himself on tortilla chips and out-of-date salsa. Attempts to pleasure himself are thwarted by not being able to "get it up," so he falls back into a dream of the Herald, the ladies and the "hot nights" living in a room without AC. . . .

    3. Look at the words. Spiteful vindictive disappointed. Standard garbage for Jessica.

I'm back. Today is all day VA but tomorrow I will hit the ground crawling. The surgery was 100% a success. Now I need several months to heal

    4. Don't forget the dude's inflatable doll he calls "Mary Lou." He wore her out in his younger days, but, in recent years, he doesn't give her such a hard time. . . ja ja ja ja ja ja

  3. I'm pissed that someone not only stole but actually stole my Carlos Cascos sign. They didn't steal it from my house but they actually stole it from my front yard. I wasn't able to get the license plate. I also wasn't able to read it but they had an EDDIE TREVINO sign on their car. It's shameful that someone would stoop that low to steal a political yard sign.

    Say YES to Carlos Cascos.
