Martin Sarkis Set to Challenge Rose Gowen for City Commissioner At-Large B

Martin Sarkis, owner of Saga Enterprises, has declared for City Commissioner At-Large B, a position currently occupied by Rose Gowen.

Sarkis believes his penchant for creating consensus will suit him well on the City Commission.

"Sometimes commissioners talk about what they're going to do without having the votes to do it.  I believe in working with the commission to get things done as a body," stated Sarkis.

Sarkis' opponent, Rose Gowen, whose held the position since 2009, has almost exclusively focused on bike trails and health issues.  Her demeanor in dealing with individual taxpayers has been notably curt, even disrespectful.

When a downtown business owner questioned reducing E. 6th Street, one of the main arteries for truck traffic into the city, from 3 lanes to 2, in order to accommodate a bike lane, she told the business man: "if you don't like it, next time vote for someone else."

Martin Sarkis will give the citizens of Brownsville just that opportunity in 2017.

    I'm surprised Sarkis hasn't taken the hint. People do not like or trust him. Mr. Sarkis, please save yourself the embarrassment and tell people this just a rumor. Tell me who you go with, and I will tell you who you are.

    If Sarkis is the best we can do, I'll take another four years of Rose "Ugh" Gowen. He is in the ranks of never shoulda runs along with Yolanda "No espeak Ingles" Begum and Robert "Shrimpy" Sanchez.
