Credentials matter.  Using a certified licensed electrician for house wiring, for example, instead of a local handyman, can prevent a future, fatal house fire.  For the public's protection, practicing medicine without a license is illegal.

In the political spectrum, candidates are notorious for padding their resume' with claims of military service, phony work history and education.  A journalist who exposes those inaccuracies does the electorate a distinct service, laying bare, not only untruths, but revealing a severe character flaw in the candidate.

Local blogger Bobby Wightman-Cervantes purports to have done such an investigation with respect to City Commissioner, District 1 Candidate, Roman Perez, claiming that Perez was not honest in his job description in a brief resume', a claim Wightman first made in a February 14, 2015 blog article.  In that original article, Wightman referred to the candidate as "Roman 'the weasel' Perez,' an indication of something less than objectivity.  Remember that Wightman, self-described as "an unbought voice," frequently describes his blog as "document-driven," not relying on rumor, innuendo or fabrication for material.
  
First, let's post the statement from Roman Perez' twitter account that Wightman says is incorrect:

"History Ad Prof. Catholic. Young Adults Minister. Eucharist Minister. Tweets politics, history, religion & sports. US Soccer fan. RT ≠ endorsement"

More than a month after the initial article, notice Wightman's claim, published in a March 17, 2015 article in the BROWNSVILLE VOICE: 

"Twice now I have contacted University Center and Wayland and they are not verifying Roman has or is teaching any courses for them either last Fall or this Spring. In all my years I have never had any institution refuse to verify employment. This is an absolute first.

Roman's lies began when he called himself a professor when he was not. Now he changed his title to Ad Professor - no Roman standard university abbreviation would be Adj Professor. You cannot even get that stolen title correct."

What Wightman says above about Wayland Baptist University not responding to his query about Roman Perez's status is a lie.  Perez sent me a copy of Bobby's email to Wayland over a month ago, along with their reply.  Perez asked me to hold up in publishing the documents to give Bobby an opportunity to correct his blog's incorrect, unfactual assertion. Wightman has not done so, despite being in possession of a clear response from Wayland Baptist University for over a month.  Even more inexcusable, Wightman repeats the lie March 17.

Below, we publish Bobby's letter to Wayland Baptist University, dated February 16, 2015:

Some might find it interesting that Wightman refers to his blog, the BROWNSVILLE VOICE, as an "online newspaper," an indication that it is Wightman who has difficulty with veracity, honesty.  

Now, here is the response from a Wayland Baptist University official:

 In the terse, straightforward statement about Perez is described as a "history professor" and and "Adjunct Professor" by the university.  Wightman, despite receiving this clarification has refused to correct the lie published on his blog.  

This reveals that Bobby Wightman-Cervantes is driven, not by documents, but by spite, personal animosity and vindictiveness.  He sat on this information for over a month, choosing not to publish the truth about Perez' status, but continue with the lie.
