Roman Perez Shares Artwork for District 1 Campaign

This is not an advertisement.  Perez does not advertise on the blogs, nor does this blog accept political ads.  View this as an example of political art.

  6. I dont know Mr. Perez and I actually live in District 2 but have no intention of voting for Sergio Zarate. My question over the advertisement is why is the ad in Spanish? People on Southmost can vote and dont speak English? I hope they are American citizens. "Your vote will change our city" . Does that mean that if he wins his vote will make a difference? Not unless he has a majority vote. Image sells, but looking professional does not make you a professional. Look at the current comission. Most are "professionals" but act like they have no idea on the meaning of the word. IF I lived in his district, though, I would vote for Mr. Perez because Ricardo Longoria has really burned his opportunities and carries to much baggage.

    1. "Why is the ad in Spanish?" Because the vast majority of Southmost residents use Spanish as their first language. Regarding US voting and citizenship, there is no requirement to speak English for either. There is, however, a Mickey Mouse English test for NATURALIZED US citizens. The border area is part and parcel of Northern Mexico, just as New Orleans is French. It is becoming more so each day. In less than one generation the "Spanish speakers" will overtake the rightwing Republicans and rule Texas as they did before 1836.

    2. Well, I don't know about your, "Next year in Jerusalem" prayer about ruling Texas, but what you say is true about the Southmost area of Brownsville rock solid. Doing business there is simple and easy in Spanish. If you speak Spanish, your restaurant order is never wrong. I'm not saying that to be in any way racist, it is simply "the Southmost of Things".

There is a twisted truth in what you say about overtaking the rightwing Republicans. More and more "Spanish speakers" are BECOMING rightwing Republicans, but I am not starting that argument.

It is a good looking sign and I am interested in what direction the candidates see the city going more as a test of their connection with the people and reality than in their leadership.
