Pat Ahumada States "I'm Not A Politician!" At Cobbleheads Meet and Greet February 5

Pat Ahumada Speaking at Cobbleheads
"You know me.  I'm not a politician, just someone who wants the best for our city," explained Pat Ahumada, at his Cobbleheads meet and greet last night.

Actually, Ahumada is a more effective politician than most, greeting supporters at each table, not once, but twice, taking the microphone to explain the event's delay as people were still streaming into the restaurant and generally taking charge.

Noticeably absent from the event were other politicos, public officials, perhaps indicative of bridges burned or, better yet, no unholy alliances. Instead, Ahumada introduced helpers "Ray, Rachel and Maggie," and his family, including his pretty blonde wife of 1-1/2 years.

Pat's almost 18 minute speech was more specific than most with promises to not engage in speculative real estate purchases, to lower utility rates and taxes, along with the obligatory "transparency, accountability and fiscal responsibility."

A handout placed on each table, inviting attendees to "Stand with Pat," promised "aggressive street paving," revitalization of downtown with "tax abatements, FREE PARKING, and, again, "no real estate speculation with taxpayer money."  Many of the promises were directly aimed at perceived failings of Tony Martinez' tenure as mayor.

A promise to "work to lower your utility rates" is made despite knowledge that a quarter interest in the soon-to-be-built Tenaska power plant will be financed totally on the backs of rate payers at a cost of $350,000,000.

The promise to "empower our city employees" and not "micromanage" is aimed directly at Tony Martinez and, likely, Rose Gowen.

Add in "expanding the animal shelter," supporting the zoo, culture and the arts, completing the weir project and adding police officers will make Ahumada's promise to "reduce tax rates" a challenge.

  1. Pat is running for the people and was asked to run by the people, not the elite and "powerful".
The "average" people working hard will win this election for Pat.

  5. Ahumada's statement "I am not a politician" is absurd; sort of like Dan Sanchez standing up and saying "I am not a fat slob". Ahumada is out for himself and his friends and is not in touch with the citizens of this community. We have no good mayoral candidates to date.

  6. You criticize because you do not like pat, you assume no politicians were there when there was. You had TSC Board members Reymond Hinojosa, Trey Mendez, and Port Commissioner Carlos Masso. Pat is focused on running his own race and is not out to fill the room with politicians, but I am sure other's went and could not find parking, but you just want to find fault. Cmon Jim! Be neutral and report that the event was great, because it was. Pat had between 150 to 200 people from all walks of life. Pat had people from the city, professionals, and grassroots people, a good sign for Pat.

    1. You're a little thin-skinned as Pat will not get fairer coverage elsewhere. I did see Trey and Raymond there, but simply forgot to mention it. Carlos Masso is a negative anywhere he attends. As I stated the lack of politicos can be a good thing.

"Be neutral and report that the event was great, because it was." Lol!

Another observation I forgot to mention is that several folks ate and ran before Ahumada took the podium.

    2. I agree alot of the older people left early as he took long to deliver the announcement, how could he not when people kept coming in and coming in, the important thing is that they went and showed their support, alot contributed and signed up to volunteer.

    3. By the way, what u think of Masso is irrelevant and does not change the fact that he is a current office holder
So again Jim BE FAIR you dont exactly get fair coverage in the blogs either
      . on the contrary.

  7. When have you known that Pat does not deliver what he promises. Look at his past record when he got into the city with high tax rate $0.75 and was lowered to $0.65, inherited a deficit of over $2.0 million and moral was bad at the city. Pat provided initiatives to balance the budget, build reserves, sell the bonds to build the library and many capital improvements. If anyone can lower your tax rate, pave our streets, and do those things he promises, it is Pat Ahumada, which is why we should all support him instead of criticizing knowing he has a track record of getting things done. Or, do you prefer the others who have not done anything and have proven they will not do anything. I am with Ahumada!

  8. Mr Ahumada is a very decent humble man and his heart is in the right place. I have seen first hand the sacrifices he makes for the animals and for people that he does not even know. He is genuinely a great person that will always help if he can. I know our city will be in great hands and he will be looking out for all the citizens of Brownsville. Mr Ahumada you have my familys vote and we will be spreading the word. Please continue to work hard and know that there are people that love, respect, and care about you sir. God Bless you
