Face of Brownsville Planning Department During Parking Meter Issues Rumored to Be Resigning

Former Interim Planner Ramiro Gonzalez

We've been trying to track down an unconfirmed rumor that Planner Ramiro Gonzalez may be leaving the City of Brownsville Planning Department to take a job as Director of the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation.  The BCIC, closely supervised by City Commissioner Rose Gowen, controls $4,200,000 of taxpayer dollars to be spent on so-called "quality of life" projects throughout the city.

So far the largest expenditures have been for the Brownsville Sports Park, just across the Interstate from Olmito, Texas and the Belden Hike & Bike Trail.

We emailed current BCIC Director Rachel Flores, but she has not responded.  Our tipster claimed Ms. Flores was accepting a position with the City of South Padre Island.

John Warrix from Atlanta, Georgia recently accepted the job as Planning Director for the City of Brownsville, his tenure beginning June 2, 2014.

    2. Is that what they are calling it these days? I remember the good old days when we fired "dynamic and resourceful" people like that.

    1. AGREE! Rose Gowen wants her puppet there since she couldn't make him planning director.

    1. Thank you Ramiro. I tend to agree with local artist Karl Julius Lieck's assessment of Nena's caricature: "My complements to the artist. He has captured the essence of absurdity and futility. Lo!"

Nena's caricature of one of Brownsville's most tragic figures has been well received.

    4. Kike,
The editorial cartoon is a longstanding device. This one is very tame. Actually, Ramiro should have been shown with a long, Pinocchio-like nose since nearly every representation made about the downtown parking raise and the 6th St project was a lie.
