Tink Nathan, Candidate for State Representative, District 53 |
"That meat goes to waste. Why not utilize it?" says Mr. Nathan. According to Mr. Nathan, 1,450 deer were removed from the highways in Kerr County in 2006.
"Certainly, not all of it could be saved. Nobody will take it if it's stinking," added Nathan.
Nathan is a member of the National Rifle Association and a co-founder of Bowhunter Magazine. His website lists him as a professional hunter, outfitter and safari booking agent. The company slogan is: "if you ain't hunting with Tink's, then you ain't hunting"
Texas Parks & Wildlife spokesperson Tom Harvey told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Nathan's proposal may pose dangers to citizens.
"People stopping to harvest dead animals could be struck by vehicles. Eating dead animals found on roadsides could make people sick," Harvey said.
Recently, fruit found in a load of drugs was given to the Food Bank, while BISD trashes hundreds of thousands of dollars of "good, edible" food every day...because that's the law...even though we have people starving among us. So, if I hit a deer with my car, why shouldn't I be able to gut the deer and process it on the spot....rather than just leave it on the side of the road to rot. The meat will be a small gain compared with repairing my vehicle.
